Alan Grayson Involved In Car Crash On Way To Campaign Event

Former Rep. Alan Grayson, who is currently running for Congress, was involved in a car accident with a bus on Saturday afternoon.

Grayson was en route to a fundraising event for his campaign when he ran a red light and hit a public bus with his Mercedes at a downtown Orlando intersection. Two people on the bus were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Grayson and his passenger were unharmed.

He was on his way to a $1000-a-person fundraiser, which was closed to media. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and actress Cheryl Hines were scheduled to attend the event in support of Grayson.

According to Central Florida News, Grayson received a ticket for the incident.

Grayson, a progressive Democrat, was elected to represent Florida's 8th district in 2008, but lost his 2010 reelection bid to Daniel Webster, a Republican. The former congressman announced his plans to run again last summer.

Before losing his seat, Grayson garnered attention for his fiery rhetoric and progressive policies. A self-proclaimed "congressman with guts," Grayson caused a stir in 2009 when he commented on the GOP's health care plan.

"Don't get sick," he said in a speech on the House floor, describing what he felt the philosophy was behind the Republican party's plan. "And if you do get sick, die quickly."

Grayson also called the health care issue a "Holocaust in America." He later apologized for his comments.
