Bullet Wound In The Neck: Doctors Leave Slug In Ricardo Acevedo's Body Following Bronx Bodega Shooting (X-RAY PHOTO)

Doctors may have saved a Bronx man's neck when they released him with a bullet still stuck behind his ear.

Ricardo Acevedo, 47, was on a ladder changing a security camera outside the Astor Deli Grocery at 8 p.m. on Thursday when a gunman opened fire. The shooter fired off several rounds outside before unloading a few more inside the store.

“I felt a pain in my neck,” Acevedo told the New York Daily News. “I reached back and touched my neck and saw blood all over my fingers.”

The father of five hobbled about a block to the salon where his wife works. He was taken to nearby, St. Barnabas Hospital and released two hours later with the slug still lodged in his neck.

“The bullet was not posing any danger to the patient. It was not in the skull but in the skin. As a precaution, doctors did not want to remove it, and the victim has a follow-up appointment with a clinic on Monday," the hospital told CBS.

Two days later, Acevedo required additional medical attention, this time at Montefiore Hospital.

“It’s a miracle I’m still alive,” he told the Daily News. “I could have died from that shot.”

The shooter also wounded two girls, ages 12 and 15. Both were treated and released.

Police are still searching for the alleged gunman.
