Joe Biden: GOP Super PACs Will Raise $200 Million To $800 Million

Joe Biden 2012

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/12/2012 11:35 pm Updated: 03/13/2012 11:11 am

Vice President Joe Biden held a fundraiser on Monday evening at the Georgetown townhouse of Sen. John Kerry, during which he ominously warned donors that Republican super PACs would spend from $200 million to $800 million during the election.

"We’re not going to be able to compete in terms of the super PAC money," Biden said, according to the press pool report from the fundraiser. "The truth of the matter is we can’t match it."

The range offered by Biden was a bit broad and, likely, inflated. So far in this primary, all super PACs combined have spent $73.6 million. That total will undoubtedly jump in the general election (and will be spread among congressional races as well). But it's worth noting that the vice president was, likely, trying to raise alarm. His audience included 87 guests, each paying a minimum of $10,000 to attend.

The vice president went on to predict that old-fashioned fundraising would end up trumping super PAC money. And he stressed that it would be the president -- and the story he had to tell -- who would prove the Democratic trump card.

From the pool report:

In introducing Biden, Kerry quoted the vice president summing up the complexities of President Obama’s first term: “Osama bin Laden is dead. General Motors is alive.”

[snip]

"This guy's the real deal," Biden said of the president. "He may say it differently than some of you are used to hearing, but this guy's the real deal… and his policies are working."

Biden said he's come to not only respect the president but also become his friend. "This guy's got a backbone like a ramrod," he said, referring to Obama's decision to kill Osama bin Laden. "He said, 'Go,' knowing his presidency was on the line. Had he failed in that audacious mission, he would’ve been a one-term president."

Putting credence in Crazy Uncle Joe's math skills is akin to believing anything Al Gore has to say regarding scientific matters.

Wow, I am mightily impressed by the those "poor folk" coming up with $10K each to get to listen to Joe Biden. $870,000.00 in one night. Bank robbers need to change their M.O. & take lessons from political fund raisers. And as usual the VP leaves a little WIGGLE room for how much they might actually raise. No mention of the President's potential $1 Billion. Personally I am just a little offended about how these parties can even contemplate spending this kind of money while 13 million people are still unemployed or under employed. The President want to tax the rich. Perhaps he should start with taxing the campaign contributions.

Yeah. We'd make a bundle from Republicons.

Why don't we take all of the "bundles" & repackage to people that are unemployed or losing their homes.

Yes according to you and your kind ALL REPUBLICANS hate women, hate the poor, hate the military (oops that's Clinton), hate hispanics, hate blacks, hate the middle class, hate unions, hate hate hate. Those are pretty strong words and very hateful on your part. HP is owned and operated by a liberal. You guys just pucker up like you just ate a handful on concentrated lemons every time someone disagrees with your opinions and this president. The democrats have spread a lot of rumors and incorrect statements and you all jump on it to be true. I would suggest you do some research before you make unnecessary comments.

Political Correctness vs. Common Sense
05:49 PM on 03/13/2012
I guess that is the price of admission to the NEW WORLD ORDER where there are no Nations, no loyalty and only greed. We fight amongst ourselves for the crumbs left on the table in the USA and the other people creating and manufacturing the products throughout the World. We (the Productive) blame each other for our current situation while those who created our plight LAUGH all the way to the BANK (In Switzerland , no doubt)
05:48 PM on 03/13/2012
Wow! then what happened to the 1$ Billion war chest we have been hearing about for months? All the figures on unemployment are not correct. We have all kinds of oil over here where we could be drilling, but President Obama says no....Is this a dictatorship or what? What happened to We The People...drilling for oil would give people jobs, and possibly those figures that are listed might be true if that were to occur.

Frankly, I am trying to figure out what happened to checks and balances? Though our Constitution doesn't word the checks and balances as such, there has always been the idea of it. Now, if Obama can raise $1 Billion dollars for his war chest...it would seem he would have some idea of how to get this economy up and running. What happened to all the promises? And what about this President, in the history of our relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, our one friend in the Middle East, I think it was deplorable how he was treated when he was here last week. If we should be helping anyone, it should be Israel.

“The two most notable Democratic mega-donors of the past, Peter Lewis and George Soros, have largely given up on electoral efforts after the tens of millions they pumped into 527 groups and failed to unseat President George W. Bush. Neither Soro's or Lewis is willing to give money anymore to Democratic PAC's.

Karl Rove & Republicans are taking billions from corporations & the Koch Brothers, and John Arnold, former Enron trader who became a billionaire, Texas billionaire Harold Simmons who gives hundreds of millions to republicans, And many more multi-millionaires & billionaires including all five big OIL corporations BP, Chevron, Exxon, Conaco & Shell give 92% ODF their political donations to republican, all Big 5 OIL corporations CEO's are republicans. The Republican party is the corporations and party of the rich corporatist.

As does an organization called ALEC who represents hundreds of corporations who insist corporations are people, individuals, they call the billions of dollars in donations to republicans “free speech”, talk about using & abusing the system & subverting our Constitution for their own greedy gain -who are they kidding? Who are these billionaires and their corporations really benefiting, certainly NOT the working people, the middle-class or small businesses, the rich & their corporations are only out for themselves for even more massive profits via their corporate monopolies, collusion, subsidies, tax loop holes & million-dollar lobbyist de-regulating to benefit their corporations?

President Obama and DNC Raise $68 million in Q4 -- 98% From Small Donors, Average Donation $55. dollars.

Obama will win the money war. Maybe the GOP has more in PACS but Obama will have more in general. It's fun to come on this site to see how biased the articles are.

Biden has to be the stupidist Vice President in History. And Kerry, well he has a hard time keeping his foot out of his mouth also. The only two points these two bring up as "accomplishments" are that Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive.

What about unemployment, what about the economy, what about the price of gasoline and developing our own natural resources (only one deepwater drilling permit issued under Obama).

How much money has been wasted on alternative fuel subsidies? How much has the national deficit increased under Obama? Like twice as much on an annual average in comparison to Bush and he called/calls Bush "Unamerican".

Yes, Jimmy Carter will be able to sleep better as #2.
05:53 PM on 03/13/2012
Biden doesn't come close to being the stupidest. The top of the list has to be Dan Quayle who couldn't spell potato. Spiro Agnew also comes to mind. Both Republicans but you are probably too young to know what you are talking about. BTW Biden brilliant political tactician in his negotiations with a Republican Congress in passing deals that resulted in the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 that resolved a taxation deadlock and the Budget Control Act of 2011 that resolved the United States debt ceiling crisis.
06:01 PM on 03/13/2012
Darn, I didn't read all of your comment. What about the price of gasoline? Do you think Biden has anything to do with the price? Really? Do you think Biden or Obama want the price of gasoline to be at $4.00? Do you think any President has the power to lower the price? The U.S. is producing more oil than ever in history and consumption is down. We are also producing more Natural Gas than every before. World markets are supply and demand. Look at emerging markets: China and India if you want to know where the consumption is rising exponentially.
Alternative full subsidies are to enable the U.S. to compete in the next revolution in energy or we will be a third world company in a few decades.
