Louisville, Davidson Battle In NCAA Tournament 2012 West Region

PREDICT: No. 4 Louisville vs. No. 13 Davidson

After running the gauntlet of the Big East Tournament, Louisville will enter the 2012 NCAA Tournament flush with confidence. Davidson also enters the tournament by way of a conference tournament title and will certainly draw some upset interest by evoking memories of the run orchestrated by the sharpshooting of Stephen Curry in 2008.

No. 4 LOUISVILLE

Overall Record: 26-9.
Big East Record: 10-8
Last Ten Games: 6-4.
Conference Tournament Outcome: Big East Tournament champions
RPI Ranking: 14
KenPom Ranking: 20
Points Per Game: 68.8
Tournament History: 60-39, 37 appearances
Standout Player: Peyton Siva
Season In Review: After a steady (but perhaps unspectacular) regular season, Rick Pitino has the Cardinals peaking at the right time. With more than 10 wins over tournament teams under the belt and that Big East Tournament crown resting jauntily on head of Peyton Siva's dad, Louisville hopes to last longer in the tournament than the past two seasons, when they were bounced in the opening round.

No. 13 DAVIDSON

Overall record: 25-7
Southern Conference Record: 16-2
Last Ten Games: 8-2.
Nickname: Wildcats
Tournament History: 8-11, 10 appearances
Points Scored Per Game: 78.4
RPI Ranking: 64
KenPom Ranking: 68
Standout Player: De'Mon Brooks
Season In Review: Despite the fact that Davidson dominated the Southern during the regular season they nearly had their NCAA bid swiped by Western Carolina during the conference tournament. The Wildcats escaped with two-point win in OT against a WCU side that finished the campaign with a losing record. Of course, Davidson would much rather talk about that time they beat Kansas in December.
