LIMA, Peru -- About 300 nude bicyclists have ridden through the Peruvian capital of Lima to call attention to safety conditions and demand measures protecting cyclists.

Event organizer Octavio Zegarra says the protesters took to their bicycles nude Saturday to show that "this is our body. With this we go out in the streets. We don't have a car to protect us."

Zegarra asks others to "please respect us."

Official statistics show 2,830 people died in traffic accidents in Peru in 2011.

Pubis Bikus is a rare disease that afflicted those with peddle-like-us. There is a similar afflictions with boaters called nudiskier. This has been linked with exposure to sunshine, salt or fresh water and gasoline powered water transports.

Tell me, how does getting naked change anything? Would they be more unsafe without some kind of protection? Like a helmet and clothes, for example?

The thought of a male riding a bike nude...oh my, the family jewels might get squashed, especially if the road is bumpy. Not sure it's worth taking a chance, regardless of the protest reason. Riding a bike, even in loose shorts, can become dangerous. To do so totally exposed--oh my. My groin aches just thinking about it!

If one of the rider should fall, being naked would increase the chances of being hurt I would think, so this is kind of counter productive.
