'Dance Moms': Nia Freezes During A Competition (VIDEO)

Nia Freezes During Competition On 'Dance Moms'

"My worst fears are coming true and my heart begins to break," Holly Frazier said of the moment when she watched her daughter Nia freeze up during a competition on "Dance Moms" (Tue., 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime). Even Abby Lee Miller had nothing to say, or scream. Poor Nia's mind just went blank halfway through her routine and though Holly tried to help her out, it was over.

"Mom, I forgot it," she said backstage after Holly ran back to check up on her. But Holly knew that in this instance Nia was getting in her own way. It's an impossible situation for any parent, riding that fine line between pushing their child for their own good, or letting them back down when the pressure is getting to be too much.

"That's okay, you know the dance," Holly told her daughter. "You will do it again. It's your turn to shine. Stop psyching yourself out." She then reminded her of how talented she was as a dancer and got her motivated.

The judges gave Nia a second chance to go out there and show her gift, and this time she didn't freeze. With her mother's words of encouragement probably echoing in the back of her mind, she sailed through the performance and earned a third place finish. Not too bad for a girl who not too long before was standing there like a statue, thinking her world was crumbling around her.

"Dance Moms" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
