Mo'Nique Slims Down, Shares Workout Motivation Via Twitter (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/14/2012 3:25 pm Updated: 03/14/2012 3:49 pm

While on hiatus from her late night talk show, Mo'Nique is apparently keeping busy at the gym. BET's "The Monique Show" was halted indefinitely last July, providing the actress with more time to maintain the slimmed-down physique that she discussed with viewers on her show early last year.

"I want to get to 180," she told audience members during the premier season of her show. "That's an amazing weight for me. I'm still a thick girl but it's a healthy weight."

The actress initially dropped 45 pounds, according to People magazine, going from a weight of 262 to 217.

In an interview with Black Voices last year, Mo'Nique shared more details on how she planned to reach her weight-loss goal.

Well, at least five times a week, Mo'Nique is up at 5:30 a.m. getting it in at the gym. She works for an hour with a trainer who keeps the routines exciting by having the comedienne do everything from weight training, boxing, and football drills to sprinting, pull-ups on the dip bar and, on warm days, jogging outdoors. Her workouts have increased in intensity and frequency over time, with her starting out with three times a week two years ago.

In recent months, the actress has taken to Twitter to demonstrate how she does it, and to inspire others to do the same.

Here, a look at Mo'Nique's workout regimen in tweets.

She is as phony as a wooden nickle! She did the Aretha, gastric bypass or the lapband. Aretha had gastric. And she had the lapband! And if you think she is doing it naturally, I have some swamp land in Florida I want to sell you.

There will be always haters. Mo'nique, keep going for your girl. I am among your countless fans who adores you for being yourself and speaking the truth. Whether it's the abuse you endured during your childhood or your support for equal rights for LGBT Americans, you are simply a class act!

She's fat not thick even at 180. This is the same woman who wrote a book called "I Hate Skinny Bitches". This is the same woman who flaunted her big body and ridiculed thin women. She can be real ignorant.
11:42 AM on 03/17/2012
You are Soooooooooooooooooo right. She made so many women think it was okay to be fat and disgusting. All the time she wanted to be thin. This woman should be the poster child for "ignorance"

Just because someone says it is okay to do something does not mean they should do it, it is this thing called, taking responsibility for one's own actions. She was saying that so that she could feel better about herself. Now she has the motivation and the strength to lose the weight. What is so wrong with that?

No it isn't. It maybe overweight but obesity is when your body is effected by the weight with high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. I've had 3 docs tell me that media is confusing folks about what "obesity" means. There are many people who are over-weight but not diagnosed with obesity.

There is a difference.

That would be a BMI of 32.9, and a BMI of 30+ is obese. Overweight is a BMI of 25–29.9.

All people who have high blood pressure and Type II Diabetes are not obese. I have relatives skinny as a rail 5' 9" 135 lbs size 10 who is over 50 and have had 5 kids with Type II diabetes who never eat fast food and walks daily and male relatives 6 feet tall 165 lbs with high blood pressure. I also have an in-law who never eats out at all, does not eat fried foods or sweets. Never eats pork or skin from chicken, and eats lots of fresh veggies and fruit and still has high cholesterol. I admit that the last two do not exercise, but all these people have a history of these diseases in their family and have done most of the proper things in attempt to avoid the health problems they have. I know plenty of people who are obviously very over weight who are over 50 who do not have any health problems. Although being over weight can lead to health problems. Most people who are genetically tied to those diseases can exercise and eat healthy and still will be diagnosed with these diseases. All people with these diseases are not lazy obese people.

Aint this somethin. I thought she was ALL FOR being BIG. Its really funny how she was saying all this "skinny women are evil" stuff and preaching how she was so into being 'BIG and Beautiful." But now she's trying to lose a ton of weight.

Glad she's doing this the natural way but she needs to reduce even further. I know she wants to rep for heavy Black women but too many are too big. it creeps up on you and you have to fight it. Not saying be skinny just bring it down to say 150. 180 is still too big. Also, lots of people who make comments don't realize that lots of areas/ communities aren't set up to just go take a job safely or there's not enough space to do the workouts or thanks to lack of access to resources there's not enough money to go to a gym and get the sort of workout from a personal trainer who works with celebrities.

Once again .. Why do people who eat like pigs . become pigs and then decide that they are going to die .. get prizes, money and reality shows for being pigs?..
