XXXX Island: Beer Company Plans Australia's Men-Only Retreat

Men-Only Island: Yay Or Nay?

For Australian fellas looking to get away from the ladies, Aussie beer company XXXX has the the solution. The company has secured a three-year lease on an island, with plans to convert it into a male hideaway, the Herald Sun reports.

Currently known as Pumpkin Island, the 6 hectacre (less than one square mile) plot of land lies on the Barrier Reef off of the Capricorn Coast. According to News.com.au, groups of four male friends will win time on the island through promotional contests.

The value of the lease has not been disclosed, but its current owners, John and Sonja Rumble, bought it in 2003 $1.3 million. It was a gift to their son, Wayne Rumble, for his 27th birthday. (The Pumpkin Island website also mentions that the whole island can be rented for as little as $1,630 per week.)

Wayne Rumble told News.com.au that "he was convinced that XXXX would support the local community by involving the region's businesses in the island's development."

"It sends a great message to all of the Queensland tourism industry that things are picking up again," said Tourism Queensland CEO Anthony Hayes in The Courier Mail.

There don't seem to be any details yet as to what XXXX Island's amenities will be. According to the Pumpkin Island website, it already features five cottages and can accommodate up to 30 guests. XXXX is looking for suggestions from the public of what they would like to see, like a one-hole golf course or beer delivery system.

It seems that niche travel is all the rage these days. Women-only hotel floors are a growing trend, and a fantasy resort staffed by only blondes is on tap for the Maldives.
