Houston 'Project X' Party Ends In Gunfire: 1 Dead At Rave Emulating New Movie

1 Dead As Raging 'Project X' Party Ends In Gunfire

An unidentified man is dead after a Houston-area rave emulating a teen party-movie ended in gunfire.

Police say that several attendees fired guns, killing one person, when authorities attempted to break up the massive house party early Wednesday morning inspired by the soon-to-be-released film, "Project X," according to ABC News.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect, who fled the reportedly huge party. Roughly 1,000 people showed up for the party after advertisements for it on Facebook and Twitter promised free drugs and alcohol, KHOU reports.

“Patrol officers got here first and they said there were people everywhere,” Houston Police Department Sgt. Adolfo Carillo told the television station. “There were people running everywhere and trying to leave the scene.”

Authorities say that the victim was between 17 and 19 years old.

"Project X"-inspired parties began surfacing following the release of the trailer for the 2012 movie. In the film, three high school students attempt to throw a legendary house party to win popularity, only to watch the night spiral out of control. A similar Houston party destroyed a $500,000 home and part-goers in Miami severely damaged a foreclosed home.
