Project X Party
Police are searching for an alleged shooter after breaking up a "Project X" party that left one man dead.

An unidentified man is dead after a Houston-area rave emulating a teen party-movie ended in gunfire.

Police say that several attendees fired guns, killing one person, when authorities attempted to break up the massive house party early Wednesday morning inspired by the soon-to-be-released film, "Project X," according to ABC News.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect, who fled the reportedly huge party. Roughly 1,000 people showed up for the party after advertisements for it on Facebook and Twitter promised free drugs and alcohol, KHOU reports.

“Patrol officers got here first and they said there were people everywhere,” Houston Police Department Sgt. Adolfo Carillo told the television station. “There were people running everywhere and trying to leave the scene.”

Authorities say that the victim was between 17 and 19 years old.

"Project X"-inspired parties began surfacing following the release of the trailer for the 2012 movie. In the film, three high school students attempt to throw a legendary house party to win popularity, only to watch the night spiral out of control. A similar Houston party destroyed a $500,000 home and part-goers in Miami severely damaged a foreclosed home.

A "rave"? Sorry, get your facts straight, that was a big party, not a "rave".

they call them "mansion parties" here in Houston. This property has been the host of many and they promote them on twitter and facebook. I am very surprised this is the first reported shooting at this address.

That is much more accurate of a description. I've never been to a "rave" where anyone was shot, and I've been going for over 13 years. I found the label they put on this rather offensive. It's sad though that things got that out of control that someone actually was shot.

Auntiec72: Where in the article did they say they were black. I read the other articles and the video and none of them implied they were black. I guess we know what side of the tracks you come from.

Well, this article may not say they were black. But, the teen killed was black, he was shot by a black person. Most of the party goers interviewed on Houston news stations were black kids. And, this property has "mansion parties" frequently - promoted on Twitter, and if you search this kid's name on Twitter, you'll see all the photos they post of themselves smoking weed and swisher sweets, and talking about "representin' the hood."

So you still don't have any information that they were black. It's always assumed.

Totally weird how after I saw that movie I told my friend, "we could never throw a party like that in our neighborhood, because someone would end up getting shot." Ain't that the truth.

So, let's blame the movie, not the actions of those who showed up looking for free drugs and alcohol. I am sure there will be a petty lawsuit after this.

What a waste of life.

Well the movie will have to have someone die too if they still want to have the "ultimate crazy" party. This may have topped it. Not in a good way though, its actually very sad.
