Jon Stewart Mocks Gingrich's Flailing Campaign (VIDEO)

WATCH: Jon Stewart: 'Why Won't Gingrich Quit?'

As the Republican primaries rolled into Alabama, Mississippi, Hawaii and American Samoa on Tuesday, Newt Gingrich's stuttering campaign faced a make-or-break moment.

In the end, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum split the elections, and while conventional wisdom says that Gingrich should drop out of the race, the former Speaker still seemed determined to relentlessly plod forward with his campaign. On Wednesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart questioned Gingrich's refusal to step aside:

"These are some of the nation's brightest minds who can't figure out why I, Newt Gingrich, won't quit. 'Was it a promise to a sick child?' they'll ask. Was he told by a wizard if he doesn't stay in the presidential race, the world will fall into darkness? Is Newt's campaign some kind of Joaquin Phoenix performance art that, I don't know, we'll eventually get, but still not like or think was that funny?"

Stewart was also perplexed by Gingrich's logic in claiming that between Santorum and himself, they will get more than two-thirds of the delegates:

"You don't get to add Santorum's stuff to yours to make it sound impressive! That's like me saying, "You know, between me and LeBron James last night, we scored 36 points."

Watch the full clip above to see Stewart mock Gingrich's unwillingness to step aside, as well as an odd "Heroes" reference from Rick Santorum.
