Studio Tour: Artist Rob Ryan (VIDEO)

This Artist Just Won't Grow Up

Take one look at British artist Rob Ryan's intricate paper artwork, and you'll see why it's all about nostalgia for him. Working from his London studio, Rob creates elaborate cutouts done on single sheets of paper, which show whimsical scenes of people and nature. Many have silhouettes of people set within a tangle of vines and blooming branches, like I Can't Forget, while other works such as All Of The Thoughts feature tender moments caught in time. "There's something about art that love is almost a kind of taboo subject," he says with a smile. "To me, it's the most natural thing to do work about."

The storybook quality in all of Rob's works is what truly captivates us. But along with that there's also a sense of wonder. And, that probably has to do with the fact that he sees the world through childlike eyes. "We're all the same people that we were when we were children," he says. "We're just bigger and pretend that we're not." This certainly is a theme in his latest work: A book entitled A Sky Full Of Kindness, which although is a story about birds, retells the human story. "It has to do with yourself," Rob says, "...and how you have a fear of other people or places, and it's really as simple as trying to overcome those things"
