St. Patrick's Day is upon us, and of course that means the wearing of the green...and the drinking of the green beer. To celebrate the occasion, and presumably not get pinched, landmarks around the world will also be donning green this March 17.
The idea of turning famous monuments green is part of a campaign involving Tourism Ireland for the past three years, reports the BBC.
"Our job is to build on this fantastic occasion by encouraging them [tourists] to visit Ireland," Tourism Minister Leo Varadkar said on Irishcentral.com. “We want to give them the green light to visit - literally."
The participant list is lengthy, and includes: the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Niagara Falls, the Chrysler Building, the London Eye, Dubai's Burj al Arab, South Africa's Table Mountain, San Francisco's Coit Tower and the Sydney Opera House.
"We are absolutely delighted that so many well-known sites and attractions are eager to come on board with us and join in our celebration next weekend," Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland said in Australiantimes.co.uk.
