Christina Lopez, Oregon Mom, Allegedly Watched Her Underage Daughter Strip

In December, Christina Lopez complained to police that her 17-year-old daughter was stripping.

Now, the 42-year-old Oregon woman faces charges because surveillance video allegedly shows her watching the girl dance at the Playhouse Cabaret in Salem, according to Fox 12.

Nicole Madril told the TV station that her mother was unaware that she had been stripping until that day, and had come because she was sick and needed money for food.

"A couple hours later, she called the police," said Madril. "She was like, 'You can't work there.' She said, 'You can't do this,' and I said, 'You can't tell me what to do.'"

KVAL reports that police were suspicious of the mother's story, but acknowledge that she was the first person to tell authorities that her daughter was stripping at the club, though she never admitting going there to watch.

The club has been fined $6,500, according to ABCNews.com.

Lopez faces one count of using a child in display of sexually explicit content.

I worked the pole through my late teens and twenties. In Memphis, occasionally a family would be having a hard time making the rent, and the girl would work for a week or so. They were usually 15-16 years old, and Mom would be sitting off in a corner knitting, making sure nobody touched her daughter. Wonder if this was one of those cases, and the two got in an argument over something?

Call me clueless or whatever but I don't get why they arrested the mother. The mother went to the club to confirm her suspicion that the daughter was engaging in an activity that she was not legally old enough to be performing. The mother certainly did not go there to get titilated by watching her daughter dance. After observing that her daughter was indeed performing illegally, the mother called the cops, which was exactly the right thing to do. What else was she supposed to do? The daughter is younger, probably stronger and probably capable of physically overpowering and assaulting the mother. Did the police expect her to bolt her into her room? You can't watch a teenager 24 hours a day and make a living.

Why don't they let them both off the hook by helping to mother with food and the daughter with a decent job.Putting then in jail does nothing to counter the actions to long term effects and does not make them prouctive.

Ridiculous that the mother gets punished for doing the right thing.

Reminds me though of one of those true life stories (though opposite from this) of Jenna Jameson. They talked about how she went to work at a strip club when she was 16. When her father, a police officer found out, he went to the club in uniform and told the owner that he better watch out for her or there would be hell to pay...... I thought, Why didn't he go down there in uniform and tell the owner that she was only 16 and if she were allowed to ever dance there again there would be hell to pay?

After carefully reading the linked stories, it has become clear that 1] many posters only read parts of the stories or do not comprehend what they read; and 2] It appears that the this poor mom was arrested to squelch her -- she would have provoked the media into doing some real investegative journalism which would have uncovered the corruption between the club owners and the police officers. That would have forced the city to follow the lead of Rock Springs, WY, who had fired everyone on the force (police chief on down) and replaced them all a few of decades ago. I hope that the media there do do the investegative journalism and provoke the needed change in law enforcemant in the area.

If she had climbed on the stage and grabbed her daughter and tried to drag her home, she'd probably be up on assault or child abuse charges! I don't understand why they arrested her. I'd be reporting it to police too. And then probably sit there and watch to make sure no one messed with my daughter.

You forget, you see your own kids starkers for most of their life, not much shocking or exploitative to your mom about seeing you in the all together.

This mother was there protecting her daughter from exploitation, as shown by her being the first one to call police when she had confirmed her child stripping underage.

Charging the mother in this case is a miscarriage of justice, and designed to prevent other parents from protecting their kids.
