10 Famous Male College Cheerleaders

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/19/2012 11:02 am   Updated: 03/19/2012 11:02 am

Cheerleading is not a sport reserved solely for squads of women in skirts.

Cheerleading actually started as a male sport at the very end of the 19th century. It's only in recent decades that it has been perceived as a sport with teams of women in semi-revealing outfits. The Guardian, as well as others, attribute the shift to the 1970s rise in popularity of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

However, finding men on the cheerleading squads in college is nothing unusual. In fact, there have been a number of celebrities and politicians who spent time cheering in college.

Check out 10 famous male cheerleaders:

Can you imagine if Pres Obama had been a cheerleader??

Just proves the fact that neocon evangelicals live in their own bizzarro world with their own facts, their own reality, their own math, etc.

They let in the info they like and reject the info they don't...therefore it doesn't really exist.

LOL, I was part of the first male cheerleading squad at my high school in 1969. There were three of us who led the cheers for the girls' basketball team. I was the tallest and skinniest of the trio, so I always got to be at the top of the pyramid.

It was great. Got us a lot of dates with some really tall, muscular girls --- one of them recently sent me an invitation to her upcoming wedding in New York. Both of the brides look beautiful ...

They sent a picture of themselves with the wedding, smarty-pants. And after I got the invitation, I actually attended the wedding. Think these things through before you try to send a clever response, yo-yo.

Most of these guys come from an era where they would more properly be called "yell leaders." Cheerleading today is VERY different. I saw a t-shirt on a girl the other day that said "If cheerleading were easy, more boys would try it."
