Rick Santorum: Puerto Rico Was 'A Nice Break'

Rick Santorum didn't gain much politically from Sunday's Puerto Rico primary, but he isn't second-guessing the trip.

"No, we had a good time," Santorum laughingly told HuffPost's Jon Ward, who asked the candidate on Monday if he regretted spending so much time in Puerto Rico. "It was a nice break."

Although Santorum has boasted of a friendly relationship with Puerto Rico, he faced long odds in the primary. Rival Mitt Romney had been endorsed by Gov. Luis Fortuño (R), and Santorum raised hackles by asserting that the commonwealth would need to adopt English as a primary language to gain statehood.

In the end, Santorum failed to pick up a single delegate in Puerto Rico, despite spending two days campaigning there last week.

He did manage to soak up some sun -- and to have his picture taken lying shirtless poolside.

"We took about an hour to sit out by the pool and catch a few rays, and so I guess a paparazzi got me, and I know, I probably should lose about 15, 20 pounds, but I'm working on it," he told radio host Steve Cochran on Friday.
