Live Updates: Illinois Primary 2012

The Illinois primary is taking place on Tuesday as voters in the Land of Lincoln head to the polls to cast ballots in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Illinois has 69 delegates, 54 of which will be awarded based on the results of the contest.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney goes into the contest leading rival contenders former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, according to the latest polls. Nevertheless, Santorum is hoping the numbers are wrong and he can make a splash with his performance.

A handful of congressional primary races are also taking place in Illinois on Tuesday.
