Jeffrey Tambor Plays Hank Kingsley To Announce 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Hey Now! Classic TV Character Returns

In a nod to one of the most iconic characters on one of the most classic TV shows of all time, Jeffrey Tambor revisited the character of talk show host announcer Hank Kingsley from "The Larry Sanders Show" (if not by name) and served as announcer for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Monday's episode.

Tambor was scheduled to be a guest on Fallon's show to promote his new show, "Bent." But in the spirit of Fallon's show celebrating the best of pop culture history, Tambor brought back the role of the sidekick he played from 1992-98 on the Garry Shandling HBO sitcom, which earned Tambor four Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor. Regular Fallon sidekick Steve Higgins was surely fine with sitting this one out to be replaced by the master for one episode.

Recently, Tambor spoke on being associated with the character on a live edition of Marc Maron's "WTF" at South By Southwest. "I know that guy," Tambor told Maron. "I know that sensitivity. I believed in him." He also revealed that he and Shandling still stay in touch, and that the comedian even gave him a Christmas ornament with an inscription of an adaptation of Kingsley's catchphrase "Hey Now!" that read "Hey Noel!" He also confirmed that a movie adaptation of "Arrested Development," on which he played another iconic TV character in George Bluth Sr., still is in development.
