Karen Santorum: Scott Brown's Protection Joke Was 'Sort Of Funny'

Karen Santorum laughed off a joke about her husband Rick Santorum using "protection" made by Sen. Scott Brown's (R-Mass.), saying it was "sort of funny."

“Sometimes, you just have to laugh,” Karen Santorum said during an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN Monday night. “I’ve reached a point now where I shut out a lot of things because I know that it can be really nasty. I continue to pray and I ask my children to pray for the other families out there who are also out there on this campaign because it’s hard for everyone, you know, I thought that was sort of funny. Sometimes you have to laugh and other times you just sort of shut it out and ignore it.”

Brown cracked the joke at Santorum's expense during Boston's annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast on Sunday while discussing the GOP hopeful's Secret Service protection.

"I see that both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum now have Secret Service with them on the campaign trail," Brown said. "In Santorum's case, I think it's the first time he's actually ever used protection."

Brown also took shots at Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich during the breakfast.

Santorum has become notorious for his extreme comments on sex, contraception and homosexuality. Below, a slideshow of the GOP hopeful's most contentious statements:
