Toxic Foods We Eat Everyday (VIDEO)

Posted: 03/20/2012 5:43 pm Updated: 03/20/2012 5:49 pm

Yes, most of the foods on this list need to be eaten in massive amounts to cause a reaction; however toxins are present in these everyday foods and can make you sick.

Just a few uncooked red kidney beans can cause severe nausea and vomiting, due to the lectin that is naturally found in the bean; proper soaking and cooking eliminate the toxin.

Brazil nuts contain radioactive radium in amounts 1,000 times higher than in other foods; not because of radium in the soil, but due to the extensive root system of the trees which can live hundreds of years. While the percentage is higher than other foods, the radium consumed in a small amount of nuts has no effect.

Most of these foods are fine to eat, especially when cooked properly and eaten in moderation. Just stay away from puffer fish and try not to overdose on Nutmeg.

This mushroom, which is poisonous but rarely fatally so, was responsible for 22.4 percent of all mushroom poisonings in 2009, according to the North American Mycological Association. Chlorophyllum molybdites are pretty mushrooms that grow in "fairy rings" after a rain.

This was stupid... I don't know anyone who purposely eats cherry pits or apple seeds. And honestly if you are smart enough to know not to eat wild mushrooms without going through all the proper steps of identification and finding out what other mushrooms they are commonly confused with, then good riddance.

There are a ton of different variety wild mushrooms that grow near my house in the woods and even in my backyard. I would love to learn which are good to eat but every time i look em up i get intimidated by the horror stories of picking the wrong one. So i guess i'll just stick to the expert at the farmers market who forages.

It is interesting that for example, kidney beans have been eaten for centuries and is a main dish in New Orleans. And I have never read inhistory of such nonsense. What is interesting is that all of the above mentioned foods, have not been genetically modified. And what isn't mentioned is what genetically modified foods can do. But the companies that produce GMO's have fought to have labels placed on their products claiming that it would drive up the cost but they have no problem forcing organic growers to place labels on their foods.

The article specifically said beans are harmless if properly soaked and cooked.

Except when toddlers put them in their nose. Or you forget your Bean-O.

This is somewhat misleading. People often confuse toxic with poisonous. I'm not really sure of the exact difference myself. I do know water, yes plain old water, is toxic in large enough quantities. Too much water, too quickly will kill you. And I don't mean by drowning.
Sodium and chlorine are both poisonous but combined, they make table salt. We all eat and even need salt every day, but even salt is toxic in large (not even very large) quantities. Most things we eat could probably be considered toxic in large enough quantities.

Poisonous- consumption or touch (can be natural or manufactured); Toxic- poison, specifically made naturally by living things; Venomous- sting or bite;

It's better to let people starve to death. It's nice to be in a position where we can be so picky about our food, isn't it?

Nice to know about all the toxins in our food. The more information we have at our disposal the better decisions we can make. However, IMO the most socially accepted poison and the most toxic thing we can put into our bodies is alcohol.

Rule of thumb.... NEVER forage for Mushrooms, unless you are with an expert!! Many look the same, or similar, and it's sometimes impossible to differentiate.
