San Antonio, Texas: Tornado Hits Southwest Of City As Storms Sweep U.S.

Texas Storm

First Posted: 03/20/2012 3:14 am Updated: 03/20/2012 4:05 pm

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Storms shuffled through parts of the south-central United States again Tuesday, bringing more heavy rain and thunder so loud some people in Oklahoma mistook it for an earthquake.

Forecasters said the slow-moving storm system that socked the region Monday could cause more flash floods, hail, strong winds and possibly tornadoes in a corridor stretching from Texas east to Louisiana and as far north as Missouri.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for parts of Louisiana and east Texas after two tornadoes in the San Antonio area injured at least eight people and damaged about 30 buildings. A twister injured four people and damaged homes near North Platte, Neb., on Sunday.

Heavy downpours were expected again Tuesday, the first day of spring. Residents and emergency workers were already reeling from the rain after what was an unusually dry winter in many places.

Officials in southeast Kansas closed several bridges, and workers in Missouri shut down a rural roadway after rain sparked flash flooding there. In Arkansas and Oklahoma, the Forest Service closed campsites in low-lying areas to avoid another catastrophe like the flash flood that killed 20 people at a remote campground in 2010.

Meanwhile, storms rattled Tulsa, Okla., early Tuesday morning with thunder so strong that it registered on seismic equipment. Meteorologist Pete Snyder felt his home shake and several concerned residents called the National Weather Service to ask if there had been an earthquake.

"We have seen quite a bit of thunder on all of our seismic stations across the state," said Austin Holland, a research seismologist with the Oklahoma Geological Survey. "We can confidently say there were no earthquakes large enough to be widely felt."

Forecasters in Tulsa said the storms have dropped between 3 and 5 inches of rain in parts of eastern Oklahoma since the storms began late Sunday night. More rain is expected there and in neighboring Arkansas.

The storms are expected to stick around for the next few days and then peter out as they meander east, said Jared Guyer, a meteorologist with the weather service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla.

"It's typical March-type severe weather," he said.

My sister-in-laws boyfriend is a police officer in Devine, TX (near San Antonio where the tornado touched down) and he was able to photograph three seperate tornados in Devine. My in-laws also live in Natalia where a tornado was said to have touched down. Thankfully, no one was killed in these storm systems.

It was a much warmer winter, which means that the spring storms will arrive quicker. These storms may have a tendency to be stronger and more active severe weather. Like everything else, the severe weather season started sooner.

Well, tell you what. I live in Colorado. Texas, you pay for your disasters all by your lonesome. It's called "pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps." Since you've been such an excellent example of the GOP for so long, I say about time you start practicing what you preach.

P.S. Sorry, you Texans who didn't exactly sign up for that. Yes, you can camp in my back yard.

Thank goodness the rich folk live in the NW of San Antonio!

Otherwise Gov Good Hair would have to walk back his talk

about Texas not needing Federal Dollars to help themselves.

AGW "Skeptics": God Protects Us From Global Warming

Senator James Inhofe, the leading climate science denier in Congress, believes that per the Bible God protects us from global warming.

Other prominent global warming "skeptics" -- including Roy Spencer (a climate scientist favored by "skeptics"), Ross McKitrick (economist / purported "hockey stick" slayer), and Joseph D'Aleo (weatherman / Icecap blogger) -- also preach that per the Bible God protects from global warming, along with other signatories of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation's "Evangelical Declaration on Global Warming":

Roy Spencer is moreover on the Cornwall Alliance's Board of Advisers:

http://www.cornwallalliance.org/about/board-of-advisors/

More from the Cornwall Alliance on their belief that per Biblical prophesy God protects us from global warming:

-----------------------
The world is in the grip of an idea: that burning fossil fuels... is causing global warming that will be so dangerous that we must stop it by reducing our use...

We believe that idea... fails the tests of theology... with a worldview of the Earth and its climate system contrary to that taught in the Bible...

God’s wisdom, power, and faithfulness justify confidence that Earth’s ecosystems are robust and will, by God’s providence, accomplish the purposes He set for them.

According to Occam's Razor, the wild weather we are having can be explained by the simplest answer. From The Right, that means the top three theories are ...

(1) Random global cycles (no documented history)
(2) End of days (because God is angry)
(3) Climate change caused by Man (unlikely)

People are too negative.

1) The midwest is very fertile.
2) Why? Partly because the midwest gets a healthy amount of precipitation.
3) Why? Because the conditions are right for more convective storms.

The good comes with the bad. More convective storms also means more tornadoes and floods. But without the convective storms, we'd be food insecure.

Are you actually claiming that more tornadoes and floods will make people more secure?

I'm saying that tornadoes and floods naturally come with the territory. Convective storms have benefits. Here, I'll let the NOAA explain it to you.

"Interestingly, the places that receive the most frequent tornadoes are also considered the most fertile agricultural zones of the world. This is due in part to the high number of convective storms delivering needed precipitation to these areas. Simply as a result of the large number of convective storms and the favorable environment, the odds are increased that some of these storms will produce tornadoes."
