World Down Syndrome Day: 'Life Goes On' Star Chris Burke Talks Awareness, Motivation

Marking its sixth year, World Down Syndrome Day celebrates the abilities of people with down syndrome.

Chris Burke, who starred as Corky in "Life Goes On," now works as a consultant for the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS). Part of his message on World Down Syndrome Day is showing others just how many opportunities they have.

"We all have different talents," Burke said, "but some people with disabilities, they don't know that."

This year is particularly significant, since it's the first time that World Down Syndrome Day will be recognized by the United Nations. But the mission of this awareness day remains unchanged. Activists aim to ensure the rights, well-being and respect of those with down syndrome, according to NDSS.

"Never give up," Burke said. "Always say to yourself, 'Yes I can, so I can make a difference in my own life.'"
