Annie Potts, 'GCB' Actress, Criticizes Newt Gingrich For Calling Show Anti-Christian

'GCB' Actress: 'Conservatives Don't Like Women Very Much'

Annie Potts is back on TV, playing a wealthy Texas socialite who loves clothes and Jesus on the new series “GCB." And although the show has only been on for a couple of weeks, it has already caused quite a controversy among several conservative groups, while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has called the show anti-Christian.

"Well, you know those conservatives don't like women very much," Annie told me on the set of "New York Live." “No they don’t. They want to take away our contraceptives and get rid of Planned Parenthood -- next we will lose the right to vote ... For Mr. Gingrich to say our show is anti-Christian, I can assure you [that] is the furthest thing from our creator's intention."

Annie, who isn’t afraid to talk politics, says she worships MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and insists "GCB" is very American, asking, “what other country in the whole world could do a show like this? Americans are great because we can laugh at ourselves."

That's why she thinks Gingrich should tune in.

"I think he ought to watch it," Annie said. "I think he has something to learn there.”
