National Puppy Day: Puppies You Need More Than A Man

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/23/2012 3:49 pm   Updated: 03/23/2012 4:07 pm

Men are great. Puppies are better.

In celebration of National Puppy Day, we've selected 11 breeds of puppies you need more than a man (it was hard to pick just 11). Not only do these puppies tick most of the boxes any online dating profile includes, but they are also loyal, loving and unable to talk back.

These little pups will never forget your birthday (because they won't know it in the first place), they'll never make you miss a new episode of that show you really like to watch some sporting event you don't, they don't play mind games, and they love to cuddle -- with no expectation of sex before or after.

No matter your particular personality and lifestyle, there's a puppy for you, friends. We invite you to find your match in the slideshow below.

Already found a pup that suits you better than a relationship? Send a photo of the two of you together and a little about why he or she is your soul mate to women@huffingtonpost.com, and we'll feature it below.

The Bernese Mountain Dog, a larger breed of dog, is known for its fierce loyalty and watchdog tendencies. This puppy is devoted to you no matter what and will adore you regardless of your mood. Unlike a man, the Bernese will not roll over when you hear something in the middle of the night and would rather not investigate yourself. This little guy will already be at the scene, ready to tear whoever or whatever is making that creaking noise to shreds. Although these puppies can be a bit shy (don't expect him to let you in immediately) and they can gain weight rather easily (hey, more to love), they are gentle giants ready to give and receive love.

To my ex-wife, I came after the kids, for sure. (Thank god there was no dog.)

It's why I left.

I am a little sad to read all the "angry" comments how this article was about men bashing. Honestly, men may need to look at this in the sense that it's time to get their act together on some parts and realize that weirdly enough women are preferring the company of their pet vs. a man...just food for thought!
My puppy came into my life when I suffered thru a break-up, but I wasn't angry or upset at this man who had broken my heart, simply the pain channeled itself through hours puppy training, sleepless nights and lots of laughs with the little creature. I had thought out the decision to have my dog for months and definitely go about it on a whim , and I am not saying that he has replaced a man in my life, I look at my puppy as an enlightening addition to my life and the right man will only be able accept and embrace that…
We tend to get so overly serious about this MAN vs. WOMAN discussion that we start finding any reason to bash men or women for that matter. And I am sure if you would ask some men, they'd tell you that at moments their dog had been a much more welcomed company than that of a woman...and I don’t blame them!

They are all cute but as a long time rescuer, I adore German Shepherds, rottweilers, dobermans, chows, pit bulls and great danes too. I have had a lot of experience as doggie mama and rescuer to all of these and they are warm, cuddly, and very affectionate.

THANK YOU HUffPo.....for including "Maggie and Mya" in your slideshow !!!!

That shot was priceless.......and while they frequently sleep together.....I
seriously doubt.....I'd ever catch them in "that pose" again..........

Wow... The male bashing on this site just gets worse and worse. They want to be sexist? Let's see how they like this: Q: What's the difference between a dog and woman? A: A dog will stop barking once you let it in the house.

I would not recommend you buy an Akita unless you are experienced. They can be very aggressive towards other dogs and children. And if you buy a border collie and leave it home alone for 8 hours while you work, it will likely keep itself busy tearing your house apart.

Foolish article by a man-hater... Good luck with your dog taking you out to dinner, buying you things, complimenting you, etc. Were the article reversed, you'd say it was from a chauvanist pig.

Oh, lighten up. This one is just in fun. Besides, you can't reverse the article. It doesn't make any sense. Having a dog is automatically better than having a woman.

Good points.... Agreed!!!

haha! I'm a woman and I thought that was funny! :)

I already have a westie, I'd rather take the human male paynus.

as a male i have always favored my dogs over women. i see nothing wrong with this article. i have had lots of girlfriends and my 3 dogs were closer to my heart than any one of them. incidently i reccomend the film "a boy and his dog". you could learn a lot by watching it.

The novella is better. Ellison was some writer. Angry Young Man of the 60s and 70s. He actually worked for Disney. For one day. Got fired for mouthing off in the cafeteria line with some Disney big wigs next to him.

I want that first one! I wish they would stay puppies, maybe I'll just get a new one every few months and put older one to sleep.

WHOA. NO. I WANT the older one~!
I'm a 3rd stage cancer survivor, and after raising 2 dogs from puppies,
and having them forever in my heart....
I decided an older dog works best now for me.
This article is demonstrating that there is a type of dog for nearly everyone.
My 5th dog was a year old when I got him. He had puppy in his heart.
After a year, I returned him to the shelter praying that someone could
appreciate his energy~! I rescued a 3 year old that now fits perfectly
into our lifestyle. An older dog is my dream dog!
Can you guess my favorite breed? "-P

huffsandpuffs - if you like them immature, over-entusiastic, and not housebroken....you should probably stick to men and forget about a dog
