Beyonce, Possibly World's Smallest Puppy, Cheats Death 4 Times

Posted: 03/22/2012 3:14 pm

She's probably one of the world's smallest puppies, but 2-week-old Beyoncé, a Daschund mix, is also a gritty little survivor, according to a CBS report.

The tiny puppy weighs 4 ounces and is no bigger than an iPhone. According to Beth DeCaprio, the executive director of the Grace Foundation -- the El Dorado Hills organization that is currently caring for Beyoncé -- the dog has managed to cheat death on four different occasions.

When Beyoncé was born -- the last of five siblings -- she wasn't breathing and did not have a heartbeat. She had to be given CPR and was eventually resuscitated.

However, her troubles had started even before this.

She was almost killed in utero when her pregnant mother -- a stray -- was found by animal control and was scheduled to have her puppies aborted. Luckily for little Beyoncé, her mother's pregnancy was too far along.

Her mother was then scheduled to be euthanized, but the Grace Foundation stepped in and agreed to take her in.

When Beyoncé was born, she was so small that could fit in a spoon, CBS reports.

Now a little bigger and a little stronger, Beyoncé -- who was named after the song 'Survivor' -- is winning the fight to survive.

I have an almost 5/lb. chihuahua that I love to distraction. People who have never had a tiny dog don't know how vigilent you must be. Before sitting anywhere in our house, you must lift every pillow, blanket, discarded sweatshirt and when U can't find her you get almost frantic, she's like a prairie dog. Even though our yard is fenced in, we back to woods and a wily fox has been hanging around. How would you like to go out 3/4 times a day and with a flashlight at night because you're afraid something will come and carry her off. I freak when she gets sick because the Vet is actually nervous coming up with the right dose of meds. I honestly wouldo not sleep again if I had Beyonce, who will be no bigger than a hamster. I adopted my forever baby, long story but wouldn't trade her for anything.

This reminds of my dog "Tiny" that I had as a child. When I got her, she fit in the palms of my hands cupped together (9 year old hands). She was a dachund mix as well and suppose to have been 6 weeks when we got her, but she was unable to eat on her own and so we bottle fed her for a couple of weeks until she got older. She was with us for 12 years and she will always hold a very, very special place in my heart.

They mistakenly mentioned in the article that Devore contacted Grace Foundation. That is completely incorrect. This shelter would never make that effort. There is a diligent group of caring people who work tirelessly to network the dogs in this horrible impound facility. They deserve the credit. They contacted Grace Foundation, arranged to pick her up and transport to Grace. Not Devore staff.

Every precious thing deserves a chance. Beyonce got several of them and made the most of them. Good for her!

Amazing Grace Foundation! Thanks for stepping in and saving the mother.

Spaying/neutering is key to avoiding unwanted pets. Visit your local animal shelter for your next pet! So many are just waiting and waiting to be adopted.

I love tiny puppies and currently have one that weighs 4-5oz. and fits on our iphone. She is 11 days old and was born March 11th. Her sisters are 15oz. and 16oz. They are little miracles and she has survived after getting sick from formula that I bought right after she was born that was 7 months past the date. She has truly captured our heart.

When I was a small boy I lived with my grandparents. My grandfather was a heavy equipment mechanic for a large construction company. One night late, he came home with a birthday present for my grandmother. It was the tiniest little puppy I ever saw. And he drove all the way home with it in his chest pocket of his work shirt. She named it Pudgie (I guess after Bettie Boop's dog). It was a little bitty female Toy Fox Terrier. We learned to never get too near her food or risk losing a finger or two. She was quicker than a snapping turtle. My grandmom loved that dog more than she did us kids sometimes. That dog went everywhere with her. And she sure never made the dog go out to the back woods to fetch a switch (stick) to get a beating with. Ah...memories of m'youth..

This is the most irresponsible thing that I have ever seen. One would assume that with a puppy who had cheated death four times, the "rescue" that took her in would be a little more careful. According to the ASPCA's website and multiple other sources, puppies should not be handled more than absolutely necessary for the first two weeks of their lives. Not only does this stress them out at a time period that is crucial for proper development, it increases risk of infections. Speaking of which, in the video at least three separate puppies were squirming around on the grass at a ranch where dogs were running free, horses were walking around, and the risk of disease for defenseless two week old puppies is incredibly high. As far as I'm concerned, that puppy defies death every day that she is with people who care so little for her continued well-being.

You're kidding, right? The pups were already two weeks old when the story was filmed. Without the rescue neither she nor her mother would be alive! You probably "bought" your last puppy from a "pet store" who got their "stock" from a "puppymill" Give these wondrful, caring people some credit!!

how does one go about adopting Beyonce? I mean the puppy. Seriously. I've been without a pet since my very old cat died years ago.

I'm confused. Are you saying that the puppy is a thing and should not be named after a person? Or are you saying that Beyonce simply is not a person?
