Michele Bachmann Owes $1 Million In Campaign Debt

03/23/12 08:43 AM ET  AP

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann owes more than $1 million from her unsuccessful bid to become the Republican presidential nominee.

Bachmann detailed her finances through late January in a federal campaign report filed this week. The report had been due Feb. 20.

She left the GOP race after finishing last in Iowa's leadoff caucuses. She is running for a new term in Congress.

Half of the debt is owed to a fundraising consultant and her campaign manager is also due a large chunk.

Talks about out of control spending and then............? Just like she wants to get rid of Fannie and Freddie...after she bought her house through one of them.

Republican candidates seem unusually bad at this stuff, talking all the time about the terrible debt and then running up more themselves. Maybe we should take Michelle's advice... It's time for "tough love."

Seems like she needs a lesson in capping spending, and not borrowing more than she can pay off. Typical republican.

I am sure she will be fine. Teabaggers will give her money to pay off the debt or she can just wait for her next government check to come in the mail.

She said that she never mispoke or made any mistakes. Guess that means that running up $1 million in debt wasn't a mistake...

The only bad news for Bachman that I'm interested in is hearing that she has not been re-elected.

Which would be good news, indeed, for America.

I'm surprised it's not more actually. To think, she was once touted as a fundraising dynamo by the GOP-NOT! At least not after people started to actually listen to what she says beyond her rather predictable anti-Obama rants.I suspect there will be more Repub candidates with similar debt or more.

I wonder if this affects her re-election campaign for Congress, just around the corner.

One thing to be nuts. Another to be nuts AND owe a million.
