Gallagher Suffers Second Heart Attack In Two Weeks, Suspends Tour For 2012

The comedian Gallagher suffered another heart attack at an Arizona hospital on Sunday, March 25, his second in less than two weeks. His spokeswoman has confirmed to The Huffington Post that he is resting comfortably, but he has suspended his current comedy tour for the rest of 2012.

"As of last night, Gallagher will not be doing the shows this year," said the spokeswoman, Christine Sherrer. "He can't!"

Leo Anthony Gallagher, who uses only his last name professionally, experienced a "mild to serious" heart attack at a bar in Lewisville, Texas, on March 14. He was put in a medically induced coma for four days, and doctors replaced two coronary stents. He was released from the hospital on March 21 and traveled to Arizona, but suffered another heart attack on Sunday, March 25, due to complications from the previous one.

Sherrer said Gallagher is recovering at a Sedona, Ariz. hospital. "He is awake, resting, and with family," she said.

The comedian also suffered a heart attack last year in Minnesota, where he collapsed at the end of a show.

Gallagher, known for his wildly popular comedy specials in the 1980s that featured his trademark watermelon-smashing "Sledge-o-Matic," told CNN on Sunday night that he plans to end his lucrative touring career and focus instead on writing television scripts.
