The stated goal of "Q'Viva! The Chosen" (Sat., 8 p.m. ET on Fox) may be to find the best talent that Latin America has to offer, but there's been another underlying drama throughout the proceedings. Though it was less evident when they were separated through much of the initial audition phase, the tension between recently-divorced judges Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez came to the forefront during the competition's second round.
"Q'Viva!" provides glimpses into the troubles that must have plagued their marriage. Anthony cracked a lot of jokes, particularly at times when Lopez wanted him to take things more seriously.
When they agreed on one dance troupe, he said he wished they'd agreed more when they were married, but she reminded him that technically they still were. "Wow, so technically when we were married, we did agree at some point!"
And Anthony clearly has a wandering eye when it comes to appreciating the female form. After one dancer left the stage, he blatantly watched her saunter past and kept his eyes glued to her as she walked out of the room. The camera caught Lopez' priceless reaction to his lengthy stare.
"She has great assets," Anthony said after she'd left.
These moments are balanced with moments of genuine compassion for one another, as well as a clear commitment to the cause they are putting forth with "Q'Viva!" Nevertheless, it should be interesting to see how well they can maintain the current level of civility as the proceedings continue and the pressure and tension continues to rise.
"Q'Viva! The Chosen" continues every Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
