Daryl Hannah: Politicians Are 'Cowards' For Failing To Speak Out On Climate Change

Actress Daryl Hannah criticized the lack of political dialogue on climate change Wednesday, especially from the Obama administration.

"Since when did science get so politicized?" Hannah said Wednesday at a trade show in Baltimore, Maryland, according to Get Energy Smart! NOW! "It isn’t like these scientists are pocketing money on climate science like political consultants are with Citizens United funds. Firemen don’t ask themselves whether a house is really burning when they see flames coming out the window and hear a child screaming. This is reality."

"They’re cowards," Hannah added, referring to politicians who fail to speak about the subject.

Hannah has a long history of environmental activism, including being arrested last year outside the White House while protesting the Keystone XL pipeline and calling on President Barack Obama to oppose the oil industry.

I think it would be a good idea for Daryl Hannah to ask her scientist friends, including James Hansen of NASA, to write an open letter to the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, asking them to counsel their state, Utah, and their members, on global warming. The Mormon church brought a lot of swift action on gay marriage here in California when they spoke out and rallied the troops. The Mormon church is pro-science. I am not a member, but I know Mormons well. Global warming will determine what planet we give our children and grandchildren, and Mormons have many. Brigham Young University's Scientists have spoken out. Mitt Romney believes in global warming, as did Jon Huntsman.

Just because she understands science - and you obviously don't - doesn't make her a dingbat. It makes her smart.

Yeah, yeah!
Rock on Daryl Hannah!

...and she would know, you know, 'cause she played a mermaid. :)

No, Daryl, simply because you believe something does not make it true.

here is an article about how extreme some people have become - and it's relation to history.

Obama has been a republican the last 2 years- he cratered on health care (real reform- not enriching the plutocratic health insurance industry) Climate change? The climate is only going to become more nasty, vicious, and destructive as we go forward.

Obama' failings on this issue will be a mark against him in the history books. The US in the future face inevitable collapse from climate change- the end results of economic and social chaos - even a rank Geographer and Sociologist can see this grim future. We will then be able to flush our worthless constitution down the drain, written in 1787, for not being able to adapt to a rapidly changing global climate.

I take it that you would have opposed Ronald Reagan. No problem. After all, Reagan would have fared much worse tha Huntsman this year.

I oppose MOST conservatives, due to a noticeable lack of common sense and/or foresight.

Yes.but.....

That's not the REAL problem. Is it?

At least not as far as I'm concerned.

In MY personal opinion.

Today's politicians are probably better labeled prostitutes.

They sell their "favors" for campaign cash.

Without which, most of them never would have gotten elected in the first place.

When you depend on what amounts to legalized bribery, to fund political campaigns.

Why be surprised when the government elected by such means is corrupt?

"I weep for the liberty of my country when I see at this early day of its successful experiment that corruption has been imputed to many members of the House of Representatives, and the rights of the people have been bartered for promises of office." -Andrew Jackson-

I wonder what our 7th president would have to say to us today, if he had the opportunity to examine the actions and motives of the 112th Congress?

Partly true I'm thinking. With so much cash available to suuport a candidate who will be your agent, the political process is quite intentionally clogged with those who definitely do not have the will or skill to lead. The parties are being intentionally packed so tight with subservient wadding that brilliance can no longer shine through.

Prostitutes are working for a living, satisfying people's needs. How does that compare with politicians?

I am so sick of the nasty right wingers who come on here just to say nasty stuff about any liberal action or person. All of those kind of negative right winger commenters are cowards who can not think for themselves and who are a big reason why their country has fallen.

Encouraging debate over catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is a good thing. Part of what draws suspicion is the resistance to debates by climate scientists (along with claiming that "the debate is over"). There was one debate, but the format was somewhat clumsy:
