Though conservatives tend to give more to charity than liberals do, Glenn Beck says that members of his political party need to donate even more.
In a CNN blog post, Beck shared his thoughts on philanthropy, lauding leading candidates, Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, for their generosity.
"At the end of the day, the lesson -- that it’s important to pitch in and give to help those in need - doesn’t just apply to presidential candidates; it applies to all of us, but particularly to conservatives," he wrote in his post. "The idea that individuals are the key to helping others is a conservative one. It’s why I have never been shocked at Vice President Joe Biden’s lack of charitable giving over the years."
So what kind of benevolence does Beck himself bestow?
The political pundit supports theHuntsman Cancer Foundation and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, according to Look to the Stars.
The radio host is also the spokesperson for Mercury One, according to the site. The nonprofit aims to rebuild the country, create jobs and prepare Americans to respond to disasters.
Beck calls on conservative candidates to pave the way for heightened charitable giving. So how do they stack up?
One of the wealthiest Americans to ever run for President, Romney donated about 16.4 percent of his adjusted gross income from 2010 to 2011, according to his tax records.
Some of the beneficiaries of the $7 million Romney gave in 2010 and 2011 included the Mormon Church, the Friends of George W. Bush Library and the Center for Treatment of Pediatric MS, according to The Christian Science Monitor.
While Romney seems to embody Beck's paradigm for conservative giving, the pundit curiously left out Newt Gingrich from his story extolling his party's philanthropic track record.
Though Gingrich's business empire has thrived, his charity efforts haven't, The Huffington Post reported in May.
Since 2008, Gingrich's American Solutions entity has brought in more than $50 million and the rest of his network has accrued millions more.
But according to the Gingrich Foundation's 2009 tax records, his charity gave away just $135,000 to various organizations. Gingrich didn’t give much more in 2008. He donated a total of $202,900 to various charities, including giving $5,000 to the City of Fairfax Band Association and $2,500 to Oliver North’s Freedom Alliance.
But his representatives insist that he's made a considerable impact in the philanthropic sector.
"Speaker Gingrich is very generous," Gingrich’s lead spokesman, Rick Tyler, told The Huffington Post. "Newt has used his name to help charities. Ask anybody in the industry you want."
Though Beck's directed his giving lesson to his entire party, perhaps he did have some specific members in mind.
