Pinterest Wedding: Someecards.com Card Pokes Fun At Single Women Who Plan Nuptials On Pinterest

Pinterest Wedding

When it comes to the recent phenomenon of wannabe brides on Pinterest, it seems that Someecards.com has read our minds.

Earlier this week, the witty greeting e-card website released this snarky little gem of a card, which reads, "I'm really looking forward to the non-existent wedding you're planning on Pinterest," effectively calling out all of the beyond-obsessed single women who have begun planning their imaginary nuptials on the photo-sharing site.

While some aspiring brides create elaborate boards entitled "Wedding" or "Someday My Prince Will Come," others are using their boards to not-so-subtly hint at their reasons for pinning photos.

Take, for instance, the woman who named her wedding-themed board "Dear boyfriend, please propose!", or the other user who pointedly wrote in the description of her diamond-heavy "Jewelry" board, "In case my boyfriend ever looks at this; a good place to get ideas for what an engagement ring should look like."

Some wedding-board enthusiasts aren't even in a romantic relationship, which seems like the minimum requirement for those planning a wedding.

Is this obsession with non-existent dream weddings getting out of control? According to YourTango.com writer Lyz Lenz, it's simply a bad idea. "Planning your wedding before you even have a spouse to be completely misses the point of a wedding -- the uniting of TWO people," she wrote in March. "It's about the both of you."

According to HuffPost blogger Sarah Shewey, the first step to planning a wedding is to "put a ring on it!."

But is this fixation with "wedding porn," as some have dubbed it, all in good fun?

While it may seem ridiculous to many, this might just be another way that single ladies can indulge themselves in pretty images and the romantic fantasy of the Big Day -- even if they never tie the knot.

After all, who's to say a single girl shouldn't dream?

Click through the slideshow below to see other Someecards.com e-cards that poke fun at the phenomenon of wannabe brides on Pinterest.

What about the already married women who post to wedding boards? I have several friends that do that - and it is irritatingly annoying.

I am a wedding vendor and I use pinterest to help inspire people to get started on thinking about what their style is all about! I pin all things floral! Who doesn't love flowers, wedding or not!? I really do just love photography, colors, textures, and putting together pretty things in one place! It really is art and it really is a great way to represent your style as a person! http://pinterest.com/bloomsbythebox/ You can go here to see why it is so much fun and innocent fun! Let people dreamm!!!!!!!!

I feel as though JUST because you have a Pinterest "wedding" board does not mean you are desperately longing to get married, or a single hopeless romantic. I personally am somewhat of an event planner and love pinning ideas for all sorts of occasions. I'm sure there are a select few pinners that pin with extreme seriousness in mind, but I'm sure for most it's just a means for sharing different ideas, not OMG I need to get married and have this lavish wedding I can't afford etc. Anyone with basic logical sense realizes that in today's circumstances, a healthy and lasting marriage is near impossible to maintain, and a pinterest "dream wedding" impossible to afford. Pinterest is for fun, leave it at that. People have dream boards for all sorts of things, vacations, homes, cars....this does not mean it is all they care about, or something they are running out to buy or do right away or ever!

While I completely agree that planning a non-existent wedding on Pinterest is ridiculous and humorous all on its own, what struck me equally was how disappointed I was by the lack of imagination and humor among the Someecards on the subject.

Where is the witty sarcasm to which we've become so accustomed?

Disappointing...oh well...I guess even funny people need a day off now and then...We'll look forward to a chuckle next time around...

If people spent half as much time planning their marriage, as they do their wedding, perhaps we would have fewer divorces....

Pinterest sounds stupid to me, but I guess I won't judge it until I check it out myself....

So, I guess I will never judge it.

Hah hah hah! This entire statement, AveragePatriot, would make a very funny Someecard!

Any woman that has a primary goal of getting married, or even one of their top 5 is a woman I would stay away from.

Weddings these days are usually cookie cutter, boring, repetitive events that are barely remembered other than the few drunken stories.

Live life, love each other and spend the money a big screen TV or a motorcycle or something.. Diamonds are a dime a dozen and the most shallow and pointless thing a person can spend money on. Materialism is too prevalent in the United States. Like I said before, live life, love each other, be nice, don't cheat, and spend the money on something you can use. Not on advertising your love to all involved only to find that over 50% of you will be divorced in 5 years anyway.
Get a life.

So in summary- Materialism is too prevalent. Instead of buying diamonds you should buy a big screen TV.

Sigh.

I would suggest to this type of woman, just throw a fab party. A wedding is more than the show. The best weddings are small & low key. Splurge on the honeymoon. That's the happiest time and you will need those memories of bliss to get through the 1st yr. lol
