Police say a cab driver in Marathon confessed to having sex with a 12-year-old girl multiple times.
Angel Lopez, 41, first met the preteen on March 19 when she snuck out of her mother’s home to go to Walgreens and he responded to her call for a cab, the girl reportedly told investigators from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. When his shift was over, Lopez allegedly took her to his apartment on Shark Street, where they had sex.
The pair continued having sex on subsequent nights even after the girl told Lopez she was 12 years old, according to MCSO, who say at one point Lopez even told the girl he could get into trouble because of her age.
The pair's sexual relationship was revealed after the girl ran away from home on March 23 and began staying at Lopez' apartment. After her mother reported the girl missing, her friends told detectives she was having sex with an older man on Shark Street named Angel.
Lopez admitted to have sexual relations with the girl when questioned, MCSO said in a published crime report. He is charged with nine counts of lewd and lascivious behavior and one count of sheltering an unmarried minor without notifying a parent.
Lopez is being held without bond.
