Apple Products More Common Than Married Couples In U.S. Homes

Apple Products Us Households

iLove you -- but iLove my Apple products more.

More U.S. homes have Apple products than married couples or children, according to a recent CNBC poll. While half of all American households are now home to at least one Apple device, married couples made up 48 percent of U.S. households in 2010, according to data from the Brookings institution. Even fewer households -- 33.5 percent -- have children under 18, the 2010 Census revealed.

Sure, it's a small difference. But it nonetheless underscores our attachment to our iDevices and the impressive reach of Apple's growing empire.

These days, households with iPads, iPods, iPhones and other Apple creations outnumber traditional households: just 20 percent of U.S. households in 2011 had a married couple living with children, while 34 percent now own at least two Apple products. There's plenty of overlap, to be sure, and more than 60 percent of households that are home to an Apple product are also home to children.

Here's one more stat to make you squirm (albeit from a decidedly unscientific study): 28 percent of iPhone users would rather go a week without seeing their significant other than give up their phone.

I love my husband, my kids, my dog. I like my Iphone, my MacBook Pro, my Imac, my IPod and my Ihome. I could not be happy without my lovely family but of course if I would loose all the apple products I have, I could be upset, maybe very upset but never unhappy. For me my family is the only important thing in my heart. People can buy things but not love.

Big deal. Guns are more popular than married couples in American homes. So's toilet paper.

This comes as absolutely no surprise. Apple is a young person's gadget and the young people aren't getting married anymore. Quite frankly this is a good thing. In an increasingly border-less 21st Century, why should the traditional (and conservative) aspects of societal acceptance still be viewed as the 'norm'. The institution of marriage has been trampled by the likes of the Kardashian's, Sheen's, Republican Politicians and more, all for the sake of keeping this acceptance as part of their lives for reasons, I'm sure, they can't even explain. Besides, what is with the consistent lack of respect for being a single person in this new century? This is something that should probably change.

I bet Apple is already working on the iSpouse!

We must do away and forsake our iProducts, in order to preserve the sanctity and continuation of institutional marriage! Does this also apply to gay and lesbian couples? We must pass a new law, in order to protect us from this technological assault on marriage! :)

This is a bit like comparing Apple(s) to oranges isn't it? LOL!!! ;-)

I wonder what the percentage of households that have Q-Tips versus iDevices? Seems just as relevant as this article.

The day Apple grows a pair of double D's, some idiot will apply for a marriage license with their Apple device.
