The 10 Best April Fools' Pranks Ever

Posted: 03/29/2012 4:25 pm

There have been some pretty epic -- and hilarious -- April Fools' Day pranks over the years. Here's just one example: Taco Bell ran an ad in 1996 saying the company had bought Philadelphia's Liberty Bell and would be renaming it the "Taco Liberty Bell." The White House Press Secretary at the time, not lacking a sense of humor, fielded questions on the matter by saying the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold to Ford Motor Company. Check out the video for the rest of this awesome list.

Apparently in the 1960s or 1970s, a Swedish radio show informed listeners that the signals for black-and-white TVs had been altered, and the picture would become colour if you put a nylon stocking over the TV set. Can you just imagine people trying to fit them on...

A number of years ago, there was quite a flap in Canada over Quebec province's demand that French be the dominant, official language, and the controversy went on for quite a while. Then, on April Fools' Day, PBS radio reported that Quebec, after announcing its intention to secede, had formally applied to the U. S. for admission as the 51st. state. I, for one, was completely fooled by this absolutely believable and ingenious prank, until I realized what day it was !

One guy unloaded a truck full of styrofoam peanuts into his brother's house. Some of those things got into my yard once, and I was finding them and picking them up for about two years.

Today's April Fools prank: Constructing a video when the list of pranks could just as easily been written down and in fact would read funnier than the silly association video (do we need to see London bridges to "get" England?) The joke's on us if our future contains no books and our people become passive receivers.

Considering Alabama's stances on education, I can actually believe they'd try to change the value of Pi.

Can Texas be far behind?
