Eagle, Fox And Cats Hang Out On Porch In Alaska (VIDEO)

Posted: 03/29/2012 5:01 pm Updated: 03/29/2012 5:01 pm

This video may seem too amazing to believe -- but a woman in Alaska really caught an eagle, a fox and her cats chillin' on her porch in perfect harmony.

Pam Aus, 58, has posted plenty of YouTube videos documenting her two cats, Gizmo and Suitcase, playing with an eagle that has taken roost near her home in the city of Unalaska. She even caught Suitcase getting way too close to her eagle friend -- once the bird slapped the courageous cat with its wing (video below).

The wildlife near Aus's home aren't new to her. But rare footage captured on Monday shows something she never expected -- all of the animals behaving themselves right next to each other on her porch.

"I was in my room on the computer and I heard the eagle squawking," Aus told The Huffington Post. "I looked out my windows and saw this. It's kinda common for the foxes to be friendly and non-aggressive -- same with the eagles. But seeing all three there was exciting. They all just sat there."

The animals certainly seem to take a liking to Aus's camera. She said that there are more than 850 eagles in the area of her home, and a family of five foxes that live in the hills nearby.

"The eagle couple claimed a lamppost across the street from my house," she said. "They will come over and sit on my porch. Or they'll just sit there and watch my cats."

How can they be Right when they are wrong so much

Despite other posts, I find the Fox and Eagle's lack of human fear incredible. Which would make me worry about the possibility of rabies in the Fox.

What most fail to understand is this is in Unalaska, a remote island where wildlife outnumbers humans 100 - 1. These wild creatures do not see man as a threat and do not see cat as food. Man is an adjunct to waste which often contains edible material. Cats are not in the genetic blueprint of available food options so are not predated. Foxes worldwide are scavengers, this fellow simply is waiting for scraps. Eagles are opportunistic to their imprinted foods. Fish will bring out the natural option to snatch from the water. The reported incidence of baldies taking cats, small dogs or other domestics is exceedingly rare. And any criticism of this woman's living conditions is rude. Alaskans live in Alaska because they feel a need to be removed from the judgemental lower 48.

Re: Pam Aus, Eagle-Cat Video
I am preparing a children's fun book which will have content that supports human, animal and bird, relationships. This is under the working title of Frddie the Greeen, Red -Eyed Frog. I would like to include a couple of photo's showing the balde eagle and cats as depicted in Pam Aus, video which would be perfect. Can permission be obtained (with costs) in this regard, please?R.W. Is she sure the Eagle is not just keeping an eye on its future meals?

I hate to tell this woman but the eagle is a bird of prey and is looking to score a meal off of the fox or her cat. She needs to keep her cat indoors. Watch the eagles as they move towards the fox on the porch and again when the fox leaves the porch. They move back to where they last saw the fox.

Wild animals should be left alone and not fed.

Beautiful video! It doesn't matter what drew them to the porch, the fact remains that they were all there at the same time and all staying perfectly calm. I particularly like the fox - looked right into the camera and the first thing I thought of was that he was ready for his closeup, Mr. DeMille - oops, I mean Ms. Aus!!

All you have to do is feed animals and it's the Garden of Eatin'.  I live at the foot of a mountain and need to keep things cleaned up or it quickly turns into this.  Most animals would rather be fed than hunt.

How cool is that? We have a race of humanity that cannot get along despite our differences, yet our wildlife exhibits tolerance! It can be done!

I'm glad that's not my house! (Huge fear of birds!)

But seriously, I'm way too much of a softy and I'd end up feeding the wild animals (a huge no-no) because I'd also have given them all names!
