The Sun reports that porn star Hollie Stevens is battling an aggressive form of breast cancer, so Seraph has started offering her clients an extra half-hour of her time if they'll donate an extra $50 to her pal.

"Cancer is something we all know someone fighting," Seraph told the Sun. "This is important to me to help someone in need."
The Daily Mail reports that Stevens developed cancer last spring. She's been through several rounds of chemo and she underwent a mastectomy to remove one of her breasts.
She has health insurance, which covers the treatment, but Seraph and others are raising funds to pay for daily expenses while Stevens can't work.

My question is does the Porn industry provide health, dental, life insurance, and retirement benefits for its actors and actresses? This is unsatisfactory at the highest level! Did you miss the sentence that says she has health insurance? The money being raised is for her daily expenses that need to be covered because she cannot work. Medical expenses are covered.

No, of course they don't, because they don't have to. Porn actors are 1099 independent contractors. There are no benefits, no retirement plans. Hollie has health insurance through healthy san francisco (sf is a good place to be if you need medical coverage), and she had a savings, which has now been spent on things like rent and food, and just basic living expenses. I doubt the porn industry will ever provide those things to talent, but if you, or someone else comes up with a strategy to fight that fight, that has a chance of succeeding, I'm all for it.

Not unionized and not all of the "models" are insured - many are just contract employees that have real jobs elsewhere. The featured artists are insured however. One of my good friends works for this very company. It is a very close knit community. Their work environment seems leaps and bounds better than many main stream office environments.

My son was told he needed surgery on a broken ankle after an accident. When they found out he had no health insurance, they put a cast on him and sent him out. In a country like this, what a horrible shame.
