Detroit Union Rep: We Will Not Come Back To Table

Unions Refuse Further Concessions

City union leaders told City Council members today they will not come back to the table to negotiate additional givebacks if the council does not approve concessions already before them.

"There will be no agreement prior to the expiration of our contracts … there is no coming back for more," Al Garrett, president of AFSCME Council 25, told the council during a contentious meeting.

Garrett blasted city administrators for putting the state's desires above those of city employees. He said AFSCME, the largest member of the union coalition, bargained in good faith to help the city out of its fiscal crisis, and that union members feel betrayed that those concessions have been put on hold because the state wants more.
