Half-Mexican and half-Filipino singer, Jasmine V is perhaps best known for playing Justin Bieber’s love interest in the pop star’s video for his hit single “Baby,” and as Bieber's opening act on his “My World 2.0” Tour.
But the 18-year-old singer—who has had hit songs of her own (“Serious,” “Werk”), and currently has over a million diehard Twitter followers who proudly call themselves her “Jasminators”—has big plans to take her career to a whole new level this year.
And to kick off those plans, Jasmine has teamed up with Microsoft IE to release a new interactive music video set to a remix of her song “Just A Friend.” The video, which you can watch here, allows fans to feel like they’re part of the video with Jasmine—for example, they can sign in through Facebook to see their own pictures in the video and can even go bowling with Jasmine. At the end of the video, fans also have the option of receiving a phone call from Jasmine.
“I wanted to connect with my fans in the best way possible and this was the perfect way to combine music and technology to bring such a unique experience to my fans that they will never forget,” Jasmine told The Huffington Post exclusively.
Jasmine says she chose “Just A Friend,” for a reason. “When I originally put the song out on the internet, it trended worldwide on Twitter for 3 days, so I knew the fans loved the record," said the singer, adding a shout out to her fans: “Go Jasminators!”
Villegas says “Just A Friend” taught her that she had fans all around the world—not just in the U.S. “It was then that I realized how international my fans are. I started seeing Jasminators from all around the world--Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Indonesia--talking about the song and I realized then that more than half of my fans are from outside the US," she said.
Having a diverse fan base is something Jasmine loves, especially since she herself is both Mexican and Filipino. “Being Filipina and Mexican (Mexipina!), I have been blessed to learn so much about different cultures,” says Jasmine. “People just want to find something in common with an artist, some way they relate to them. Once they find that connection whether it's because they're Latina or have curly hair or eat certain foods, they stick by you and show endless support," she says.
