'Rear Window Timelapse': Hitchcock's Courtyard Compressed Into 3 Minutes (VIDEO)

Rear Window

Have you ever imagined what the courtyard of the apartments from Alfred Hitchcock's film "Rear Window" looked like in full? Videographer and special effects master Jess Desom has done just that. Using After Effects, Desom pieced together the scenes from the famous Greenwhich Village courtyard and all of the tenants' happenings into a cohesive three minute video. The results of his work are phenomenal and kind of mind blowing, providing never-before-seen perspective on a popular film.

Desom has also done visual work for the likes of NRP & WNYC’s Radiolab in their video "Words."

Watch below for Jess Desom's version of "Rear Window":

It's a wonderful movie. I like the clothes worn in this movie, too.

No, he didn't imagine that guy who killed his wife and buried her in the courtyard.

On the Vimeo page for this vid, the name is "Jeff Desom", not "Jess" as the article states.

It was a well-crafted film...But I don't get the relevance of this FX....It looks gimmicky and does nothing to enhance the film.

This may be the most impressive thing I've ever seen done in after-effects. I adore this film and to see this reworking of footage is stunning.

Awesome work. Alfred Hitchcock himself would have been impressed.

Some of the most boring crap I've ever seen- pointless - absolutely, totally pointless - or is that the point ?

Well then. I hope you didn't torture yourself the full three minutes. Have you ever watched the movie? If so, this may have been a little more interesting to you.

You'd have to have seen the film to know what you were viewing in the montage. It was great, and the film,.. Even Better.

Individual solution. Why does everything have to have a soundtrack? Hitchcock understood terror and suspense. He could make broad daylight seem terrifying.

Always wondered why in the movies/tv they never seem to have screens on the windows but often there's a screen door on the very same house/building. For that matter why they are able to park a car convenienly or the robber just happens to find a car that's unlocked with the keys in it (not so much now tho) used for their getaway.
