Elections 2012: Afghanistan Policy Positions By Candidate

Let's Talk About Afghanistan

What should the United States do about a country where we have spent over a decade and trillions of dollars at war?

Don't ask the men running for president.

With the notable exception of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who has referred to the war in Afghanistan as a "waste" and called for withdrawal, the Republican presidential candidates' platforms on Afghanistan are largely unclear.

President Obama doesn't bring up the subject much, either. In his 2012 State of the Union address, he spent only 5 sentences addressing the war.

Below, see recent comments from President Barack Obama, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum on their positions on Afghanistan.
