Nikki Haley Claims She Wears Heels As Ammunition In South Carolina Political 'Blood Sport'

Governor Nikki Haley (R) said she wears heels as "ammunition" in the tough political climate of South Carolina.

"It's a blood sport," Haley said Tuesday on The Colbert Report. "I wear heels and it's not for a fashion statement, it's ammunition."

"You keep them sharpened?" host Stephen Colbert asked.

"I do. It's for kicking," Haley replied.

Haley appeared on the Comedy Central show to discuss her new book, Can't Is Not an Option: My American Story. Colbert inquired about the title, saying "as a conservative I believe that can't is a way of life."

"You can't come into my country and you cannot get married if you're gay," Colbert said.

Haley touted her Indian roots as an example of South Carolina's ability to overcome diversity. Haley is the state's first female and first minority governor.

"I think it says a lot about the people of South Carolina that they would elect a 38-year-old Indian-American female for governor," Haley said. "It says that South Carolina has changed and it's progressing."

Haley has said that she wrote her memoir to be an inspiration to others -- especially women -- who have political aspirations.

"This story is about a lot of challenges, but it's about so many more successes," Haley told the Associated Press. "The image of the state is changing, and I'm proud of that."

Did anyone else get alarmed at the obvious lie that Nikki Haley spouted about her immigrant parents coming to the US with only $8.00 in their pockets. Her father is a doctor and he came to the US with $8 in his pockets? As Colbert replied, when did they immigrate in 1843? So when does the US only allow immigrants to come with $8 in their pockets. Did Haley pull a Palin?

Addendum: Apparently $8 is the amount that India will let you take out of the country. Still, her parents appeared to be well off when they arrived here - they were not economic refugees, so maybe they had $8 in their pockets and a few million tucked away here and there.

I'm from India. From the 60s through the 80s, India did not let people carry foreign exchange outside its borders in excess of $8. Nikki's parents likely did NOT have a few millions tucked away outside India's borders, as they would have been hounded by the income tax department. Her dad was a doctor who probably came to the US to do his residency so he likely got some money to meet his expenses. This is usually a small amount but his hospital must have helped him to get a modest accomodation and an initial amount for food and other essentials.

Uh give me a break. You have no clue what Indian immigrants went through to get here. I know plenty of doctors who had to drive taxi cabs to make ends meet. Not just from India, but from Asia because no one would recognize their skills as it was from a third world countries. A lot of the families that came in 1960s and 1970s had their lot improved only after 1980s when the tech boom started kicking in and America was finally ready to recognize their skills. Until 2002 not many people were given credit cards either in India.

I'm am about as far left as you can get but just love this woman for some reason. If I were Romney I'd pick her as the VP running mate.
