REPLY ALL: Isaac Mizrahi On Cruella DeVille And The New York Yankees

Marlo Thomas checks in with the Jewish-Egyptian Brooklyn Boy-turned-international fashion maven.

If you could write a personal slogan that you live by, what would it be?
“Have fun or don’t do it.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My tendency to worry and think too much about the future.

What is your greatest fear?
Being misunderstood -- it's worse than claustrophobia.

Which word do you most overuse?
“Darling.”

Who or what always makes you laugh?
Ru Paul's drag race ALWAYS makes me laugh

What is always at your bedside? In your bag?
So pretentious to say, but by my bed I have The Collected Works of Shakespeare -- including the sonnets. In my bag, I have a little silver Ganesh that someone gave me a while ago. And a lot of lucky pennies.

What do you collect?
I collect lots of things without thinking about it -- old hats and old jewelry, mostly. Oh, and tons of books.

What is your obsession?
Television.

Who do you text the most? How often?
My husband, Arnold -- as many times a day as it occurs to me, without seeming crazy.

Who was the funniest person in your childhood?
I remember my mom being a real wit. She had a wonderful, economical, pithy way of putting things. Not necessarily funny -- but wry, observant.

Who's your favorite bad guy?
Cruella DeVille, because she's glamorous and evil and I relate to her in many ways. But in other ways I detest her. She's a real complex character!

Who is your personal hero?
George Balanchine.

Which song or songs would make the perfect soundtrack for your life?
I think if you started playing Joni Mitchell non-stop, somewhere along the line you'd hit on a good soundtrack for my life.

When you're watching TV, what makes you want to throw the remote at the screen?
Whenever anything gets gratuitous -- like violence for no reason, or someone who’s an "anti-hero" just for the sake of being dark and edgy.

What do you find sexy? What turns you on?
I like tall men with meat on their bones -- I’m not a big fan of skinny. I hate to generalize because I often find skinny people sexy, if they're smart and/or fabulous.

What do you remember about your first kiss?
I remember how nervous I was before it, and how relaxed I was after.

What was the most useless piece of advice you ever received?
When the boyfriend I was with in 1987 advised me not to start my own company.

How do you dress your dog Harry?
I sometimes dress Harry in this sweater that I knitted for him, that matches one I did for myself. They’re like mother/daughter sweaters. They're camel’s hair, and his has a big red "H" knit into it, and mine has a big “I.” They are my “Rosebud.”

If you were a stripper, what would you choose as your stage name?
I would be called Fanny Pax. Fanny: the polite word for ass. Pax: the Latin word for peace.

What is your secret dream?
To run the New York Yankees.
