Fisker Atlantic Plug In Hybrid Unveiled As Challenges Mount

Posted: 04/ 5/2012 2:55 pm

EarthTechling:

While Fisker is certainly proud of its Atlantic offering, as well as its first generation luxury Karma, a growing cloud of issues the automaker has faced recently overshadow the moment. Most immediately, the company faces challenges over needing to replace battery packs and modules in its vehicles that were supplied by A123 systems. This comes on the heels of a major embarrassment a few weeks back in which Consumer Reports ended up with a dud of a Karma for its highly regarded automotive reviews, prompting the hastened need for the testing vehicle to be replaced.

It is time to end the oil monopoly on transportation fuels. We need a choice at the pump. Monopolies are only good for the monopoly and not the consumer.

Bring on the electric, flex-fuel, hybrid, CNG, LNG and hydrogen fueled vehicles.

We had all of those things ("Bring on the electric, flex-fuel, hybrid, CNG, LNG and hydrogen fueled vehicles. ") decades ago. We had a choice but said, "FU." All of those campanies went bankrupt; millions of people lost their jobs and the homes. 75% of the homes in my subdivision were foreclosed on. My home was worth 20% what I owed at 15.5% interest. The entire Alternative Energy went under within a couple of years when the government financed bubble burst. There have been electric vehicles for 100 years. There have been flex-fuel and hybrids for 80 years. The hydrogen fuel engine was invented close to 200 years ago. Oil has never had a monopoly. We are just lazy-assed hypocrites who don't care about the environment except in election year.

I look forward to the day when we can get off of petroleum use. Better battery technology, coupled with cleaner sources of power, are both needed.

Remember when flat screen TVs first came out? And the bigger ones cost $10k? Remember the VCR/Beta war, and when a home VCR was $500? And you rented the VCR with the movie for about $15?

Electric cars are the future.

Oil is a finite resource and the price of oil is going up every year. China and India are the new driving force on oil prices.

As the price of gas continues to rise and becomes shorter in supply, electric vehicles will look better and better.

Why is this a hyped car again?

As of this Thursday, even this price will jump by some six percent to $102,000.

That's for the base Eco Standard model, while the top Eco Chic trim level will now sell for $116,000.

Really. This thing is about as relevant to the American consumer and our energy issues as the flying car / ornithopter prototype

Why is it difficult to understand the Atlantic which used to be called the Nina is not the same as the Karma which does have a price tag and is not the same as the car shown that does not have a price tag and looks a lot like the Karma which has never been renamed unlike the Nina which is now called the Atlantic?
