George Soros' Son, Alexander Soros, Follows Dad's Philanthropic Footsteps

Alexander Soros

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Soros family.

After observing his philanthropic hedge-fund manager father donate $8 billion to charity over the years, Alexander Soros, 26, has decided to launch his own ambitious charitable initiative.

The younger Soros announced the establishment of the Alexander Soros Foundation Friday, an organization that will work to promote social justice and human rights, Philanthropy.com reports.

Alexander, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in history at the University of California, Berkeley, told The Wall Street Journal that dinner conversations often centered on the importance of giving back.

George Soros certainly set the bar high, as his foundation has been committed to developing open societies in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States, since its founding in 1993, according to the nonprofit’s website.

While Alexander is following in his father's footsteps, he said he may take some unexpected turns with his work.

"Philanthropy is not the answer to every problem, but it can be a catalyst for change," Alexander Soros said in a written statement, according to Philanthropy.com. He added that his goal is to fund “more experimental and perhaps controversial projects that larger mainstream foundations might not be able to take on.”

The entire Soros family deserve a Nobel Prize for . . . well, for just being great.

They are all so humanitarian and unselfish and live just to serve their fellow man. Well, and make a little profit from currency manipulation sometimes too, but let's not quibble.

If everyone tried to be like George or Alexander, then all the world's problems would be solved by the end of the day.

I thank the Creator every day for having created the Soros family!

The paranoid delusions and conspiracy theories start swirling when a wingnut hears the name Soros. They can't imagine that there are people who actually want to make the world a better place.

In other words, what you are talking here is that, by using money as leverage the dude philanthropist imposes on others what life should be, as he sees fit.

Read any serious sacred book; -you have plenty available,- making money foresight, it isn't the same as divine foresight. When money foresight is used for life quality foresight, humans officially turn into heartless machines.

BTW "to face reality," never means to be lost "imaging life."

"the dude philanthropist imposes on others what life should be"

What is he "imposing" on others that you object to?

Since someone is bound to come here to spread the phoney-baloney conspiracy theories about George Soros, I'll remind everyone in advance that Soros lost his parents to the Nazis, and then fled Hungary when the Soviet-backed regime seized power. When George W. Bush said "You're either with us or you're with the terrorists," it reminded Soros of what Hungary's communists said.

There is no need to go further than your super ego motto, "I connect the most dissimilar things," to notice your own vanity and of the so called philanthropist. The one who created nothing to make his money and under the prefix of heart goodness, uses the money for national power swings, lurking to be venerated by humans as true God, for money.

As far as I know, the dude never escaped the Soviet block mentality of sheer materialism.

All his action are down to that material level of give and take that is of giving solely to be revered as God, but never want the sheer mortals as equal.

Its so nice for you to come on here and protect a man that has made his fortunes on the decline of Countries economies....and is hoping for the US to fail so he can become richer.

I like that he is willing to change up the philanthropic calculus that currently exists. I'd love to see him do something really controversial like set up a philanthropic hedge fund-- use the principles of venture capital beyond "venture philanthropy". Take it to the extreme...go beyond performance measurements and tailored financing, actually build in a robust investment incentive that had a kick back to the organizations. Now that would be cool...

I have always adored George Soros and his rags to riches story. And the man has a kind, good heart. You may thank him for bringing such a good boy into his circle of philanthropy. We need a lot more like him.

Soros agenda: spreading democracy and democratic ideals around the world, opening up the once-closed Communist societies of Eastern Europe to a free flow of ideas and scientific knowledge from the outside world.

Koch agenda: keeping the country hooked on oil, sweeping away clean air and clean water regulations in order to make their oil and gas operations even more profitable.

Everyone promotes his or her own agendas in life. Mr. Soros is wealthy enough, like Bill and Melinda Gates to actually DO something good for the poor. The ballets and operas around the country will always have their donors.

Money buys influence. Influences buys greed. Greed buys sorrow.
