Celebs On Mars? Who Would And Who Wouldn't Go To Red Planet (PHOTO GALLERY)

Interested in a trip to Mars? It would be a grand adventure, and you'd have quite a story to tell if you made it back home in one piece. Still, there are a few things to consider before you sign up.

First, it's a very long trip. Mars is closer to Earth than any other planet but Venus, but calling it close is a stretch. Its distance from the Earth varies from about 36 million miles to more than 250 million miles—as compared to about 238,000 miles to the Moon. A rocket ride to the Red Planet would take at least six months--each way.

And Mars isn't the most hospitable place. The atmosphere, mostly carbon dioxide, isn't breathable. And the temperature runs around minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit--on a warm day.

Who would sign on for such a voyage? Quite a few people, as it turns out—and we’re not talking only folks whose paycheck comes from NASA. Recently, The Huffington Post asked Lucy Lawless, Cenk Uygur, Kris Jenner and other celebs if they’d willingly strap themselves into a Mars-bound starship—and we were surprised at their answers…

"Hell, no. I'm a landlubber, not a space man. (Though I have played one on TV.)"
