'Mudcats' Finale: Hours Before The End, A Fish Needs On-The-Spot Surgery To Survive (VIDEO)

A Fish Needs On-The-Spot Surgery To Survive On 'Mudcats' Finale

With time ticking in the invitational, and on the season clock for "Mudcats" (Thu., 10 p.m. ET on History), it was down to the wire for the boys hoping for a win. Scooter hauled in a great catch with only hours left to go, but in getting it out of the water, the fish got cut by some rebar and was bleeding pretty badly. If the fish were to die, it would do him no good at all.

So Scooter decided to be resourceful. Rather than try to find another fish, he had faith in this one and instead made the choice to perform a quick surgical procedure right there in the river, stitching up the side of the fish.

It paid off for him, as Scooter won not only the invitational, but the entire series as well. And the fish came through, too. It was a win for everybody, except for the fans who have to say goodbye to the popular series for now.

"Mudcats" wrapped its first season on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on History. No word yet on whether or not the network will head back into the muddy waters for a second round.
