Ever have one of those really awesome professors? The kind that make you interested in a major when you only wanted to take their class to knock out a requirement? The professor who stays long hours after class, makes lectures interesting, and always responds to your emails in the most helpful way they can?

The Princeton Review teamed up with RateMyProfessor.com for its new book profiling the 300 best college professors in the country

Check out the full list here. The 300 profs aren't ranked in the book, but we took a brief sampling.

Did anyone read some of these "reviews" by students? Some of these professors gain high marks for being "easy" and offering "numerous grade boosters". Very little is said about how these professors assist students in their attainment of knowledge.

I have a personal issue with rating professors and linking their tenure or job with so called rating and perceived meritocracy. Not that these professors should not be lauded or appreciated, but if you go completely by them, you could do injustice to quite a few good professors and teachers.
I know quite a few professors who were very decided and brilliant, but they would not have been tops in rating lists or awards roll, because they were quietly (very quietly) doing their work in the background without fanfare or marketing. My own father, a physics professor, and college departmental chairman, was one such person. He was loved and respected by his students and peers, but he never appeared in any lists or awards (till he passed away) and even put his money and extra time for the sake of his students, selflessly. He led by example and teaching remains my most respected profession to this day to me and to my two very successful siblings.
God bless such unsung heroes (and heroines).

Are you familiar with One Day University? Quite a few of these Professors teach with them....

Yet another phony poll. There are excellent professors on every campus in the world. Furthermore, some professors appeal to some students some of the time. If the most expensive, most applauded schools don't have the best professors, then something is very wrong with the whole system. This whole thing is nonsense.

Interesting that none of the Ivies or Stanford has anyone on this list. You can interpret this like a populist, and think that's because Iowa State has "better" teachers than Yale or Stanford. Or you can interpret this like an educated elitist, and suggest this list if sheer nonsense.

Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Cornell all have professors on the list

Stanford and the Ivy league colleges do have professors on the full list, the list given in this article is only a small sample. There are 300 professors listed. Mount Holyoke has fourteen professors listed, the most of any college on the list. Stanford has two. Harvard has two. Yale has two. Princeton has one.

Some of the best professors do their lectures for "The Great Courses". They do their lectures in a studio, so you can buy them.

Your masters won't help you that much if you haven't learnt pedagogy.

Rate My Professor lost me when I saw the chilis for "hotness". What does that have to do with teaching?

Extremely biased ways of judging a teacher. Popularity contest? Essentially worthless

Never took his class, but took a class from one of his students. I hope the way he taught was more interesting than what he taught.
05:36 PM on 04/09/2012
Clarification: These are not the "best" professors; they are the "most popular" professors.
