Bing Released From Hospital

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing checked out of Henry Ford Hospital Saturday morning following treatment for blood clots in both of his lungs.

The mayor has been in and out of the hospital since he underwent surgery for a perforated intestine on March 24.

The mayor was recuperating from surgery at home but returned to the hospital Wednesday, when doctors discovered he was suffering from pulmonary embolism.

Bing named his chief of staff, Kirk Lewis, deputy mayor to carry out his duties during his illness, but officials say the mayor has remained involved in city operations.

A full statement from the mayor's office is below:

Mayor Dave Bing was released from Henry Ford Hospital this morning.

The Mayor will resume recuperating at the mayoral residence after being readmitted to Henry Ford Hospital Wednesday where doctors diagnosed acute pulmonary embolism in his lungs.

Mayor Bing is still recovering from surgery to correct a perforated colon and is expected to return to the office by the end of the month. He continues to be involved in City operations through regular meetings with Deputy Mayor Kirk Lewis and other mayoral staff.
