Phlog:

One of the most fascinating documents we came across was the BPD's subpoena of Philip Markoff's Facebook information. It's interesting for a number of reasons -- for one thing, Facebook has been pretty tight-lipped about the subpoena process, even refusing to acknowledge how many subpoenas they've served. Social-networking data is a contested part of a complicated legal ecosystem -- in some cases, courts have found that such data is protected by the Stored Communications Act.

if you think police even need a subpoena to view your page and make copies it's content, they don't. There are legal ways of getting on someones FB page even if it's contents are blocked, and its not hard to do.

There must be an other system than FB or other social media without any server owned by scrupulus ppl that think they own us all. Time to get something new in this world.

Nice of BPD to release his friends full names and handles for the world to see... friends who did absolutely nothing wrong and were not charged with any crimes... nice.

Me no use Facebook and, though I've certainly put "too much" out there, I try not to put much out there about myself personally and not too often. Scary.

So... everything. Even deleted stuff. Fantastic. We're compiling our own dossiers over on FB.

The basic answer to 'what will Facebook give' is absolutely everything.

The court is unlikely to restrict the information requested in the subpoena since they don't themselves know the scope of potential information.  Facebook cannot hold back anything that it knows regarding the subject of the subpoena without being themselves exposed to, at a minimum, contempt of court.
