Occupy Wall Street Targets Bank Of America

The Nation:

It's fairly impossible to speak with OWS activists without hearing Taibbi jargon about "vampire squids" or "raging hurricanes of theft and fraud," so it makes sense that soon after his class at the spring preview, Occupy once again is making a major push to hold BoA accountable for its terrible behavior.

The government cannot and will not hold these banks accountable. It is up to us to force them to make changes and get out of investment banking. I'm glad that BOA is being challenged. A success just might make politicians notice...

BofA represents everything wrong with crony capitalism and money in politics. OWS should have been laser-focused on them the beginning.

Your probably the type of person who sits on his a** and throws rocks at someone else who's trying to make a difference!
Or are you one of the sheeple that ask no questions and swallows the Kool-Aid of the Repub/Baggers are serving.
There are two types of people in this world
#1. The kind that TRY and do something!
#2 The kind that SIT on the sidelines and wonder whats happening!
Which are you?

Many of us who do not approve of Occupys methods do many things to help the world. I for one help at a soup kitchen and clothing closet in my church every week and help build houses for Habitat for Humanity in my city. That may seem like small efforts to those who support Occupy but I can assure you they are greatly appreciated by those who receive that assistance.

http://stopforeclosurefraud.com/2011/10/27/nj-class-action-giles-v-phelan-hallinan-schmieg-wells-fargo/ It's a house of cards - when one BofA goes down the rest will follow. Remember, the TBTF banks know what they did, they all know what each other did. Just the target that occupy is going to take down Bank of America first has probably got them all as nervous as long tailed cats in a room of rocking chairs GO OWS !!! go team!!!

I think OWS is thinking too small. There is only one reason that government responds to the needs of the financial system so readily. It is because the financial system is one of the largest contributors to electoral politics.

There is no need to try to convince the banks to play fair. First, it won't work. Banks don't understand what "fair" means. Second, it places far too much power in the hands of unelected, profit-driven soulless corporations.

Simply make the sole focus of OWS the readily obvious undemocratic way that public elections are financed. Make the sole legislative goal of the movement the complete prohibition on all private funding of public political campaigns. The number of seemingly intractable problems this resolves is simply staggering.

Citizens United becomes moot. Large corporations become as mute as we all are, in that, their unlimited wealth is no longer a megaphone through which they can drown us all out. SuperPACs disband immediately. Lobbying becomes an anachronism.

Suddenly, congress critters don't have to spend 3 hours per day fundraising. They aren't beholden to those who fund their campaigns. They are free to actually vote their consciouses.

I wonder what America would look like if money didn't rule everything?

The America of home of the free and the brave. You mean people would have days off, and parades on Fourth of July (instead of working for the almighty dollar so you can eat ). An America where life & liberty and the pursuit of happiness is encouraged, probably wouldn't recognize the place

F&F. So true. The biggest problem in America is crony capitalism. Despite what the right wing thinks, this country isn't anywhere near as socialist as they make it sound. In America, the government doesn't control the markets; the markets control the government.

I like the idea of taking them down one at a time. I no longer do any business with BoA. When BoA is just a memory, I will look for the next target. My hope is OWS will be back stonger then ever.

That is not fair, if you are going after BOA, you must go after Wells Fargo, Citibank, Chase Bank, all of those involved in bringing this countries financial system down! Be fair, don't act like them!!

I think Occupy will go after them all, one at a time. Since BofA seems to be the worst offender, it's not a surprise that they are at the top of the "hit" list. You can only focus on so many fronts at a time.
12:02 PM on 04/09/2012
With one of the primary complaints against OWS being lack
of focus, perhaps it's best that they concentrate on one worst
example and hope for leverage. "Fairness" doesn't require that
they all be tackled at once.

dick, They have been remarkably well organized, focused, and the root of that 'complaint' about 'lack of focus' was created by the rightists themselves, trying to invalidate the message we ALL understand. The INEQUALITY of access to opportunities between those monsters and the rest of us. Income Inequality, the issue of WHO gets arrested for fraud and financial terrorism, and those who don't...the TRUTH about where those mortgage papers are, or whether they even EXIST any longer. The militarization of city police in many of our cities, the use of weaponry to subdue citizens USING THEIR CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED RIGHT of protest, and resistance against those who would try to silence them, as if we should BE QUIET and OBEDIENT while they finish their RAPE. If you look at Iceland right now, you will see how easy it is to get rid of the 'YOKE' of financial servitude they inflict. Compare Iceland to Greece. Iceland told the Euro banks to SHOVE IT, and they are now in FULL SWING OF RECOVERY!!! It isn't a REAL debt. It is paper-created, and the lives it destroys is the only REAL thing about it. OWS is the 'WAY' we organize ourselves into a 'speaking force' they cannot ignore. Every lawn in America should have an OWS sign. Every car should have a bumper sticker. I do, and it feels good. I will be participating in the mid-April movement in MY community, and I can't recommend it enough! It Feels GREAT!!!
