BLT Chips: Lay's Debuts New Flavor That Tastes Like A Sandwich

Blt Chips

Just in time for National BLT Sandwich Month (April), Lay's has nationally released a new potato chip flavor: Classic BLT.

HuffPost Food gladly sampled a bag and we have to hand it to Lay's -- these taste pretty much like a chip version of a BLT. It's eerie that a potato chip can emulate the taste of a sandwich. The flavors of toasted bread, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise are all evident.

The thing that makes a Lay's classic potato chip so addictive is that it isn't too complicated. Adding a frighteningly accurate BLT flavor forces you to stop and examine each chip, which gets tiresome. Once you get over the fact that it tastes pretty authentic (well, as authentic as a sandwich turned into a potato chip can be), you won't necessarily feel compelled to eat the whole bag.

Here's the nutrition label:

And here's how a chip looks:

While people might enjoy a BLT sandwich, and people definitely enjoy potato chips, it remains to be seen if the two items should be combined. Perhaps these BLT chips are another example of the desire to modernize traditional American food to something else completely (see: hot dogs + delivery pizza). And, actually, 7-Eleven launched hot dog potato chips last year. If this trend continues, the creation of a single food that has the flavor of 10 different dishes seems imminent. All hail the hamburger-flavored, hot dog-topped, bacon-sprinkled Subway 12-inch Thanksgiving turkey sandwich (with a side of pizza-flavored ribs).

They sell ketchup in Canada, I'd like to see them sell them here.

Well, I wasted $3.69 at Ralph's on these, thanks to that tout article. Blehh. Nothing as to taste, too thin. I'll feed the birds with these....they sure aren't worth the calory-count.

I tried them. They were just okay to me. I mostly tasted the bacon flavor over the other flavors. I wouldn't buy them again.

Lay's seem to be very innovative in their potato chip line however I have yet to see Asian flavors like seaweed and salt or squid. I think they might have a winner if they experimented a bit more with Asian tastes.

Check out all the different variations of Kit-Kat that are available to the Japanese, it's crazy! Some of them sound pretty cool, but a lot are definitely not geared to the American palate.

Japanese Kit-Kat where? Who sells it? What's it called? I didn't know the Japanese ate Kit-Kats. Oh but wouldn't you just love to sink your teeth into a squid or shrimp chip. Even wasabi salt sounds good to me.

They did these in britian about 4 times under the Walkers name, they failed after about 4 months, but they still turn up under a different guise every now and then...But credit to em, they do taste like a BLT!

Havent seen this flavor yet but tried their Beer Battered Onion Ring flavored ones a couple of days ago and was severely disappointed. Like these they have a picture of the onion rings. Unrealistically I expected something that looked like their "Funyuns" and was mildly surprised when I opened the bag and saw potato chips. Got over that quickly because I wouldn't have expected the ribs that were pictured on the bag of BBQ flavored ones. Tried the chips and not only did they NOT taste like beer battered onion rings, or even onion dip flavored...they tasted just like regular potato chips. I honestly think they put the chips in the wrong bag. Things like that can happen as once I got a Cheeto in my bag of Fritos.

Lays has all sorts of flavors you never heard of marketed in other countries. Two of the strangest I've seen were Barbecued Lamb Kebab flavor, and caviar!

Tried them. First couple of chips were OK, nothing to get excited about. Not a BLT.
